In side-scrollers, I would probably rank among the best in the world. Outside of that... I'm all right lol. I think this is mostly because of when I grew up (2D era). It was a different time, for sure.

It's Mario right! I knew it !

haha. Yes, I can pretty much murder the NES titles... well, the first and the third. As an OG, I still don't recognize Mario 2 as being Mario 2. That game came out in Japan. What we got was something else. Fun, but definitely not a Mario game.

I would say my two favorite side-scroller franchises on the NES outside of Nintendo and Capcom, would be Ninja Gaiden and Contra. My lord, do those games have a way of hypnotizing you. You get in that zone, and you're just gone.

I am only ever slightly above average in competitive games.

Halo 2- Sure I can beat my friends and my brother, but I could never beat anyone decent at the game.

Smash Bros Melee- Same thing as Halo 2.

World of Warcraft- Brought my guild to the top 10 on the server briefly, but that took a massive amount of time and effort, and we quickly lost relevance.

League of Legends- Peaked Platinum, felt like Diamond V level. Nowhere near as good as Challenger or Pro.

Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition- Above 1000 elo playing casually, again nowhere close to a 1400 elo+ player, who in turn suck compared to pros at 2500 elo.

If I ever had the natural skill to compete near the top level then I definitely would have practiced more and at least made an attempt to be at the top, but that never happened.

I'm pretty similar above average but not elite in most of the competitive games I've played, although  I've never played a lot of them truth be told.

I'm guessing that you would probably be like me in so much as there are some games where you felt good enough to be one of the higher ranked players but didn't have either the time or inclination to practice and learn the game to the nth degree needed to rise to the top, for  example even though I only played for short term fun and preferred other genres, I was pretty good at PS1 fighting games but I quickly reached a plateau because while I enjoyed those games I wasn't invested enough in them to put in the hard yards required to be elite and I remember thinking when the subject turned away from favourite fighter and toward the best fighting sticks and complex discussions about animation frames reared their ugly head it was time to move on.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

I'm probably top 20% in most shooters. Shooters are the only games I play competitively really, played Dead or Alive online a few times and felt like I was below average at it.

Not really I'm a Lone Ranger.

Online gaming doesn't get me excited anymore. I peaked out at Duke, Tribes 1 and Unreal Tournament and QUAKE III lol

Then something terrible happened, WoW come out and it consumed all my friends lives and were never to be heard form again. That point foward I decided to become a casual gamer and not get obsessed with it too much,

I was Number 1 at the worlwide leaderboard for Tomb Raider in 2003!

on N-Gage... =D

I also was a relatively competent Counter-Strike player at the time. But I don't play online games anymore. Overall I think I'm pretty good at most single player games and I tend to choose the highest difficulty in new games from the get-go.

I very much doubt many people have made prettier things in Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, but how can you know really.
