Forums - Nintendo - Okami Wii sells nearly 50k in four days. Not too shabby.

It is a lie that it is a bad thing that this game was on the PS2 first, and I am sick of it.

Why is it a lie? When a game has been available on the dominant last-gen system so that anyone who is not completely new to gaming already had the chance to buy it, I think its obvious that less people will buy the same game a second time.
Yes there was Resident Evil. But when it was released the Wii gaming selection was a bit thin. This has changed.
So yes having been on the Ps2 takes away the thunder from a game release.

Its a great game that I have never played (for some reason, I just stopped buying PS2 games after a while...), so definitely looking forward to this hitting the Wii. Its an instant-buy for me. Much more so than Brawl even.

With the big install base, I think Okami will have good legs - and by the end of the year, will have joined RE4 in topping sales on its original platform.

Gesta Non Verba

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

I think there might be some reasons for better success:

Original came out quite late in ps2 life, many good titles, focus already on current gen

Ninty demographics closer to taste of okami gameplay - less GOW, GTA we the hardcorz maturz stuff

still quite good USP on wii as still not many AAA titles out...so even a classic AAA can be interesting

And finally: NOT MANY HAVE PLAYED IT YET! as in, see ps2 sales....

Every games 1st week is 4 games.

This isn't special.

But it did good for it's first week, but I think it's too early to say it'll have legs.

It's a shame this game didn't do too well on the PS2. It was a heavily hyped game, but not heavily marketed. I loved the art, the music, the story and gameplay. Also, it was a nice take on Shinto mythology. Hopefully with such a large install base and lack of too many big titles at the moment, they could easily sell it if they'd only put some damn money on advertising, especially since hardly anyone played it last gen.

All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.

this could be a really frontload game.... just saying.... Most of the Okami hype is among core gamers, and it only mustered 50k... its legs could die and struggle to reach 150k... I think that is very possible... then again maybe it will have OK legs. But if anyone is RE4:Wii legs they are kidding themselves.

add me, the more the merrier.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition still sells good...

But I don't know. We have Okami to watch and Rygar and maybe some other past PS2 games.

It'll most likely sell about 30k in Europe during opening week and 20k in Japan give or take a bit. So it'll at least reach 100k for it's opening week. After that we can expect another 50k for it's second week and then a drop to about 20-30k for a few weeks.

200k should be easy to hit. 270k will take awhile unless we start buying this game for our friends and family and force some sales ;)

If ever there was a need to gift games for people, it's games like this that need it.

lol , Patapon opened with 48 k and people where saying that they where expecting much more , and it will never make a profit . And now a 47 k opening is not a bad one :P

Well Il tell you one thing : told you so :P

PS : sales where higher than waht I was expecting :D

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

@Hunter_alien: Those people must have been blind. Sales of games like Elite Beat agents are never that high on opening week. They tend to have decent legs though and continue on. Okami is not that type of game though. It's a game with a horrible name with no advertising and box art that doesn't appeal to the mass market.

They should have renamed the game to "The lone wolf" and shown a much more realistic wolf on the box with wolf cubs howling at a full moon.

Then they could have run an advertisement on the game that showed no in game footage but again featured the same wolf with cubs, one cub wanders off on it's own, gets all scared. The guy commentating asks you to guide this young wolf on an adventure.

Works for me ;)
