I don't see any evidence that his voice is popular and beloved other than some posts on the internet.

You must be living under a rock then. How about you prove me the opposite. I've never seen anything suggesting that there's some kind of widespread dislike for Charles Martinet's voice acting of Mario and co.

And I think Mario went the cartoony route with Super Mario Bros. 2 already. 

I actually like Chris Pratt as Mario because he sounds like Captain Lou. ^^

I don't need to prove anything, because I am not the one making a claim about Martinet's popularity one way or the other.  You are the one making the claim.

Furthermore, you are now saying, "I must be right, because no one can prove me wrong."  I suppose you believe in unicorns too.  I can't possibly prove that unicorns don't exist.
