Fire Emblem Engage my most anticipated Switch game now! And it's coming so soon. Didn't expect for them to change the artstyle though.
9/10 direct overall.

Fire Emblem Engage my most anticipated Switch game now! And it's coming so soon. Didn't expect for them to change the artstyle though.
9/10 direct overall.

I was expecting much more from this direct.
- Radiant Silvergun on Switch, that's great!!
- Octopath Travelers 2 was a big surprise, looks beautiful, loved the first one for characters story and combat system, probably a day one purchase.
- Zelda ToTK didn't impress me, apart from being a direct sequel to a masterpiece, I suspect it will be more of the same without that "breath of fresh air" the first had.. Generally I don't like direct sequels, for the next Zelda game I would had preferred a totally new game (in style and, partially, in gameplay).
- Kirby's Wii remake was unnecessary... Why instead, do not remake older games like Zelda II for Nes or some GB games, Nintendo? Weren't games like F-Zero GX or Kid Icarus Uprising much more interesting to remake and much more requested by fans? Does we really need two Kirby's games per year?
- Fire Emblem Engage, despite being really nice in visual presentation, it didn't seem on par with Awakening or Three Houses.. it seems more of a fan-service game.
- Again, no release date for a little cartoony war game such as Advance Wars.. a stupid decision in my opinion.
- Was expecting at least GameBoy games for NSO and GBA games for NSO+... a bunch of N64 games (mostly Mario Party) are not a sufficient reason for me to renew the service.
6.5 / 10
I was pleased with Fire Emblem and Pikmin 4. Both surprised me, in a very great way. Front Mission release dates make me happy as well. Octo 2 is great. Muliple games i am very interested in. So I'm going 10/10.

It was a fine Direct, some extra new stuff we now know is coming like Pikmin 4 and Fire Emblem Engage and new info on Tears of the Kingdom, namely the title itself and an actual release date. Surprised to see Octopath Traveler get a sequel which is a pleasant kind of surprise. Ignoring the joke about the amount of farming sims and RPGs, a critique which we already know about, we didn't need that much time spent on a demo of the Pikmin Bloom mobile game, which has been out since the end of last year.
People being pissy about the Zelda and Metroid HD remasters not being shown off, hasn't anyone learned by now to not hype themselves so much over rumours and reports from "industry insiders" over something that was never promised or guaranteed? It's been over five years since the whole Pokemon Stars debacle that everyone believed in and still no one has learned.
I was sad at the end when the release date for Tears of the Kingdom was revealed, not because it's some way out, but it's because it's near to what would've been my gran's 100th birthday (she passed earlier this year and was really looking forward to the sequel, having enjoyed watching me play through Breath of the Wild from start to finish).
For the people mentioning Advance Wars not getting a release date, remember Nintendo delayed it because of the war in Ukraine (which was a ridiculous decision) so I don't know why anyone would expect a release date on it while the war is still going on. Whenever that war ends I'm sure Advance Wars will release shortly afterwards.
I give the Direct a 8/10.
It had some surprises (Octopath Traveler II and Pikmin 4), although no surprising AA holiday title for this year. At least I was right with the announcement of the Zelda title and release date. Though, I would have bet pretty much everything that they release Zelda within this fiscal year, which ends at the end of March 2023. Unfortunately there wasn't much to see. I guess 8 months until release is still too far away to show more.
The new Zelda and Pikmin 4 could also mean that we get a Switch 4K next year. Miyamoto once said that Pikmin 4 would profit from 4K. :D
And Breath of the Wild was already programmed to run with 60fps. Both games would be great to demonstrate a more powerful hardware.

Indeed he did, but I didn't know that about BOTW's frame rate. Would be great if a 2023 Switch revision could provide that kind of boost.
Honestly, this direct for me wasn't really exciting. However, I could see why other people would give it like an 8/10 or 9/10 if you're really into RPGs.
But for me personally, the games shown aren't really games from franchises I care about, I couldn't care less about Fire Emblem or Octopath Traveller 2. Pikmin 4 is cool but im not a huge Pikmin guy either, im more so happy for Pikmin fans who were desperate for something new with the franchise especially since Pikmin 4 was announced back in 2015. I dont care for Kirby deluxe.
I am excited for Zelda TOTK, but honestly I already sort of know what to expect from a sequel to BOTW so I dont really get super hyped even when gameplay is shown, the sky islands look cool but I already know what to expect from the game so it wasn't really super hype for me.
And tbh the farming RPGs did get overshown to high hell in this direct, I get that the Switch is the go to console for games like that since many Animal Crossing like gamers are on it but my God they showed a bit too much.
If you're an RPG guy, im sure this direct was pure heaven for you. However, for me it just didn't appeal to me much. I'm more into Nintendo for franchises like 3D & 2D Mario, Metroid, Zelda, F Zero, Mario Kart, DK, Mario Spinoffs. I wish there was a more new stuff from those franchises especially from 3D & 2D Mario since its now been around 5 years since Mario Odyssey & 10 Years since the last original 2D Mario.
I'll rate this direct around a 6/10 for me, objectively speaking though probably around a 7.

As a massive pikmin fan I agree, I was desperate. It has been far too long since pikmin 3.

The direct wasn't great for me. I have no interest is farming games, so that's a large percentage of games shown that weren't for me. Zelda getting a firm release date is the biggest thing. New Fire Emblem is always great since I love that franchise but I legit thought this was a sequel to the mobile game until they said otherwise. Octopath 2 is great, That's it for the new stuff that got me excited.
It doesn't matter too much to me that there wasn't much for me in this direct. I just got Splatoon 3, I need to get Xenoblade 3 at some point, and there's plenty already coming I'll eat up like Nier Automata and Bayonetta 3.
