here is a thought, rumor or not. if PS3 continue to sell poorly Kojima will have no choice but to make a x360 version this is why kojima have no say!! as long he gets the monthly paycheck from the person up there. that person up there will only go with where there is money around, not risking a 30million(very conservative estimate) project on a system that has a tiny install base. Kojima can say whatever he want right now, but he does not have the final say to have MGS being exclusive or not. If he is the one giving out paycheck every month then he can do whatever he want with MGS4

hmm.. nope... Resistance.. no framerate issues... Motorstorm.. nope none... VF5... nope... Ninja Gaiden Sigma.. in press edition.. nope... Games by garbage developers like the ones who made Sonic, Full Auto, Madden, Ubisoft, EA, and Activition... yea... by their devs are idiots... and have always.. its seems 1st and 2nd party devs have no trouble with the console... so whats 3rd party's excuse. |
Exactly, I just lost the ability to back this up without saying something inappropriate. I try to refrain, alas... Also I have not heard of any 1st or 2nd party developers complaining about framerate issues in upcoming games either.

Wow, people ARE worked up over this one!
I think this is by far the most likely outcome:
1/ MGS4 is released in Japan for Xmas '07 - PS3 only
2/ MGS4 is released in US/Europe either this Xmas, or early (Jan/Feb) next year - PS3 only.
3/ 360 version comes out for Xmas '08 (US/Europe lead countries).
...
Why would this SO hard to believe? Konami ended up bringing several previous MGS titles to the Xbox.
...
There are NO technical reasons why MGS on the 360 is not possible - absolutely none. And its almost certain to have a stronger/better online focus when it does come out.

Only 500,000 copies would return 30million, I don't think it would be a stretch to at least double that (and please do not begin to debate that I'm calculating retail and not shipping expense and retailer profit and paying Vinnie not to highjack the truck load, etc)
When Kojima ported MGS2 to the Xbox as MGS2: Substance, it did not do well, I think the 2nd version probably sold more on the PS2, I know that I bought it again, same goes for MGS3 when it's Subsistence came out. Does anyone know if the Twin Snakes version on Gamcube did well? If these fans aren't going to buy the games why would he waste his time porting it when he knows his loyal fanbase is ready for it or planning to get a PS3 for the game(and others)?

That is pretty much what HAS to happen based on sales of PS3 so far in order to gt a return on their investment.
Things may change, but they would seiously be foolsih not to port this game over.
Predictions For Last Full Week of Sales in 2010)
WII - 80.35 Million
360 - 43.88 Million
PS3 - 41.40 Million
More terrible predictions coming Jan. 2011!!!

I think that's what non-360 owners like myself are thinking. Given that Namco said that you need to sell 500,000 copies of a game like Ridge Racer to break even on the PS3, I wouldn't be surprised if a mega-budget game like MGS4 didn't require 750,000 or 1,000,000 copies to see black ink. Konami is likely to make a profit no matter what, I think (does anyone really believe the game will sell less than 1 million copies?), but that profit could be small or insignificant, and software companies don't like to spend millions of dollars and several years of development on their flagship title only to see little or no profits.
So how do you solve that problem? Assuming you can't do much about PS3 sales in the mean time, the easiest way to see real returns would be to port to the 360. This is also why some people think Kojima may be wrong: he may personally have no interest in a 360 version, but I doubt his CFO feels the same way.

Do I even have to back up my arguement??? 500k * $60(yea konami get $60 from each copy sold) = 30million, and my arguement is not about how many copy needed to turn in a profit, its about who got the last say to have exclusive or not, and its not the decision of the disigner, unless that designer is writting off paycheck to empolyee, then he'll have the ultimate saying to any business decision.
and please know what you talking about before you point out 500k copies would return 30million, yes your correct in revenue, but 30 million is my estimate cost of developing the game. 30 million revenue does not cancel out 30 million cost.
