Forums - Gaming - Who's better at implementing controller gimmicks, Nintendo or Sony?

I'm seeing a chunk of "but this company did it first". For starters, Microsoft, Nintendo, nor Sony invented haptic feedback. It was a 1970s technology that just so happened to also be included in controllers, particularly modern ones. In that regard, they all "copied" the idea and I'm not handing credit to one of these companies over another as some mental gymnastic to "high-five" a billion/trillion $ corp.

They didn't "invent" HD rumble, either. You can thank Immersion, just as you can in the case of the DualSense. Again IMPLEMENT, not innovate or invent. All mentioned console manucturers implement features well despite some tried (and failed) things along the way (Power Glove, PlayStation Move, etc.). Who gets the credit for moving things forward? I credit the creator, not the borrower, but it's fine not to, because the argument isn't about inventions.

So, since the thread asks who's better at implementing features (this, in and of itself, is largely, but not totally, subjective), who did what first is irrelevant. First doesn't mean "better" and the back and forth on this has grown old. Nearly all features of a controller have been borrowed from someone else's invention. Implementing a working formula ahead of others is nice, but shouldn't override another company refining said formula and making things better. That should be the whole idea, after all.

Yea give credit to Philips for patenting Wii motion control idea while never implementing then suing and winning patent case against Nintendo.   Sorry I just had to bring it up.   I get what you are saying though.
