Forums - Gaming - Games You've Done a Complete 180 on.

The best example I can give is Final Fantasy 13.  I bought it day 1, like I usually did for FF games, but the game was just garbage.  I couldn't believe how bad it was, since this was my favorite series, and everything about the game seemed boring and ridiculous.  I kept playing just to make fun of it and also to spite myself.  Like, "Hey, I paid full price for this game, so I'm going to keep playing even though it sucks."  At least my wife was there so we could make fun of it together.

Then somewhere around 20-25 hours in, the game gets really good.  It turns from terrible to awesome.  I ended up playing for about 100 hours total doing almost all of the optional stuff.  The game really left me wanting more.

Another game similar to this is Twilight Princess, but the effect is not as extreme.  The game is only terrible for about 10 hours (i.e. the Wolf Link parts), and then the game gets really good, but not as good as FF13 after the 25 hour mark.

There has been a few. One that comes to mind was ff12. When it came out I was quite young and didn't like the mechanics of the game. Played the remastered version on ps4 and loved it. appreciated the mechanics alot more

Breath of the Wild. First time I played it, I was disgusted and thought that they’d destroyed my favourite ever video game series. I barely played 4-5 hours before putting it down. I felt genuinely upset that I’d waited so long for “this”.

I returned to it perhaps a year or so later, this time getting about 20 hours into the game. I enjoyed it slightly more but it didn’t hold my interest so I dropped it again.

Third time, perhaps a year or so after the second, I tried again. What the hell had I been missing?! I fell in love with it this time, and now it’s not only one of my favourite Zelda games but one of my favourite games ever. So glad I went back to it time and again. Really am not sure what I was missing the first two times around!

May I ask what exactly you didn't like the first time around?

Can't think of any games I've truly done a complete 180 on or even had my opinion change that much. Perhaps the game where my opinion has changed the most is Super Mario 3D Land. When I first played it it was mind-blowing to have an all-new 3d Mario on the go, with such amazing 3d effects and graphics that looked closer to Galaxy than they had any right to. Now that the shine has worn off and there have been other and better games that followed, the fact that the level themes are generic and the level design doesn't reach the heights of any of the other 3d Mario's is more apparent. It's still a great game and one of the best games on 3DS, but it's dropped significantly in my rankings overall. That's as extreme as my changes in opinions on games gets.

I genuinely am not entirely sure; now that I absolutely love it, it doesn’t much make sense to me. But I’ll give it a go! I think it was that it seemed to deviate so much from the Zelda experience I’d come to know and expect that it just felt like it wasn’t a Zelda game (and no, I didn’t play the early Zelda games). It may have even been with how I was feeling at the time and where I was in my life. I’d love to clarify and pinpoint what I didn’t like the first time around but I’m really not sure anymore. I am confused at my own initial reaction now haha!

Few, if any.

I bought Minecraft on Windows way back in 2016 (still have the key code account info if i needed it). I played it for about an hour and have never touched it since. Recently, I bought Minecraft digitally on Vita and physically on PS4. I've enjoyed the game quite a bit goofing off, looking for materials, crafting small things, and getting trophies. So that's really the only time I can think of where it happened.
