I started watching this while my edible started to kick in

When he got to the next big revolution (AI) wondering what will happen with AI lacking empathy, this came to mind:

Hmm, we're already in a much colder world. First live streamed genocide and the entire world just moves on, condemning starving children but no empathy to actually save them. AI is already used for targeting but now it's still humans making the decisions to inflict horror on each other.

Let's give AI a chance and perhaps AI will give us a chance.

We (genX) effed it all up good. From bedroom coders to civilization destroyers. From early tech adopters to pining for retro tech.

We dove head in to the internet, building it up, cheering it on. Dial-up to always online, always demanding faster speeds and more content. We got what we wished for.

As I always interpreted this song literally "Here we are now, entertain us"

Was the world too easy/comfy in the 80s 90s that we only sought entertainment?..

And on that note with AI... As useless as many people find AI, the automation aspect of it makes certain tasks significantly faster to perform. As a result, fewer people are necessary in many fields which has had the knock on effect that things have become significantly more competitive in my field as time moves forward, especially since there have been loads of corporate layoffs. As such, I've not been as active in these forums in the past few years. And with GPT5 on the horizon, I figure, this is the best time to jump on the lifeboat and get off this slow sinking ship...

So, I'm at a bit of a crossroads, because it's just going to get worse from here. Two roads lie ahead: I can partner up and start my own B&M or go back to school and change my career course entirely. And since I'm due for a midlife crisis... that means a big change in something you're dissatisfied with, I've chosen to head back to school. And so I'm heading to University with a bunch of 17 and 18 year old first year students.

So, I'm already getting course material. Starting tomorrow, full steam ahead on these survey courses I'm in... And to ensure high grades, I'll be cutting off social media, including YouTube, and severely cutting back on general forum activity to perhaps 20 minutes a week or two starting some time in October. I'm not going to be very active over the next few years, except during gaps between semesters. I'll likely stick to threads like this one... places where I won't feel the compulsion to argue :D - This is a "goodbye for now" type post because it'll probably be at least a month and a half, and when I get back, probably not a lot of activity until December... and then not much more until second semester concludes in late April or May.

I haven't really thought about the career direction... well, it's not that I haven't figured out what I'm interested in (I'm not 17 or 18), it's that I'm interested in a great many things, and I need to cut it down to one or two topics. That's why all the survey courses this year. I've already disqualified any directions that are dead ends, overly competitive, or "teaching only" opportunities... basically, anything that will be unreasonably competitive in the next 15 years because of AI/automation. But, I'll know more in about 8 months once I'm done my initial surveys. Although, I don't anticipate on knowing exactly what career path I'll be pursuing until sometime towards the end of this degree. Mostly, I want something new and different, and still have my old skills to fall back into if I can use them.

But otherwise, I'll still be around here in this forum (in October). Just avoiding the usual "invasive information" that shouldn't concern me in the meantime. That means, I'll likely be away from politics and other contentious topics that can lead to consuming more and more information. I'm not giving up on contentious issues, just that it must relate to my academic pursuits and lead to something fruitful on that path... which means, all my arguments during the school year will be related to my academic studies, not in a video game forum.

Anyway, for now, this is a "see you later" type post.
See you next time I'm high (October).
I've become old school :D

Just to comment on this. This is the micro-generation I am a part of. I believe the correct term is "Xennial" or "Gen X/Millennial cuspers" (basically, the late Gen Xers and early millennials). To be fair, I never really thought about generations until I was already an adult. I was aware of the Baby Boomer generation gap, and the film The Graduate, and that's about it.

Smells Like Teen Spirit was kind of our anthem.

(And on an unrelated/related note. OK, I know this post is after my goodbye post. NOW it's goodbye!)

Yeah it's the 1970-1990 ish generation, right between gen X and Millenials. And indeed this generation labeling thing is pretty new. Those who grew up in the 80s/90s is a better way to specify it. The generation with Boomer parents.

Goodluck on your endeavor!

Just got through grilling what ended up being the best zucchini I've ever had. Munchies at 1 am. Wish I had taken a picture.

We are hauling some serious ass!

You forget one last motion we have;

The Milky Way itself moves at a speed of 1.3 Million miles (had to look up the number) per hour, relative to the cosmic background radiation, through the intergalactic space as well!

And we still aren’t really getting anywhere at all.

Each Galaxy(Milky Way) is moving as a single unit through space.  I would think one of the most difficult things to do would be is to launch a buoy, that could sustain an absolute zero movement position, in which every point could be mapped from.

An update on the school thing.

At my usual midday campus hangout.

At one of those Pub/cafe things. Everyone is dead sober... not even high.
Also, great idea, combining two of the best places to hang out... not one other person outside of my table has a drink or a coffee. It's all water, soup, health smoothies, and sandwiches? And the thing is the coffee and beer are both really good here!
I'm on my third IPA and second coffee. Did I mention, I'm HIGH!

Tables are all homosocial, that is all dudes or all women. My booth is literally the only place in here with a mix... granted, we're all studying and shit... well, I'm goofing off on the social internet when I should be prepping for my calculus class or burning through my physics......... fuck. But what is with all the tap-water drinking? That's totally fucked. These fucking assholes totally ruin the vibe. I'm bitter! I'm bitter! And it would actually matter if I wasn't damn fucking high! How are these fucking pieces of shit ALL DD? Every week, it's the same shit.

But, I fucking love it here!

I just wanted to leave some inspiring quotes.

"Motherfuck Dre!"
"Motherfuck Snoop"
"Motherfuck Death Row..."
Yo! here comes my left blow!"
"cuz' I'm the E-A-Z-Y-E, and this is the season-"
" to let the real motherfuckin G's in!"

Note: I'm actually a big fan of Death Row, but this song is DA BOMB!

(Writing from Calculus class... I shouldn't be in this mind-state... but Calculus is fucking easier than you think. It's just limits, simplification, differentiation rules, and shit. I can't believe they made a whole fucking class on this! :D ....... To be fair, I'm a repeat student... I did this class in the last century. It's not my first rumble... if you're heading back to school for some reason... the major challenge is re-calling foundational algebra and trig)

On a side note, I used spreadsheets to devise a flashcard program with weighted balances. And built in toggles to select courses and flashcard questions which I have to answer, and answers which I have to question (Jeopardy style!). It's awesome for studying. Especially applying encoding tactics of easy interleaved studying and encoding/retirval practice with built-in metacognition by adding and subtracting to weights... minimal VBA.
