Forums - General - Will there ever be a way for immortality?

Death is something hard to get over really. I brought this topic up because of one of my friends' friend's death. (he jumped into a local river and got hypothermia.) It was all over the news last week. He's really going through some major shit though lately. Do you think it would be cool to live forever and never die? To me, it would be neat to be immortal. But, it may never happen in our lifetime though. Who knows. It may happen next week. What are your thought?

Do you mean "What are your thoughts" or, "What is your thought"? I can't focus when people have huge grammatical errors like that. Edit your post, and maybe I'll answer.

I missed the "s", in "thoughts". Sorry about that.

I want your "thoughts".

It would be absolutely horrific to be immortal. When everyone else is dead, you will spend your life walking the Earth, forever. Can you imagine the crushing loneliness? Infinity of loneliness, wanting to die, but death shan't come. To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.

Immortality, a cursed gift.

Dmeister quit being a grammar rapist, forcing your grammar upon people.

I do not think it will ever be possible to be immortal, and even if there were a way, I don't think I would take it. People need to die for the next generation to get their shot at life, that's just the way it works. It seems selfish for any generation to stop the natural cycle, and not make room for the generation after them.

Yes I got most of these reasons from the "Bicentennial Man" movie.

Also on a more personal note, I've never liked the idea of eternity. It's the same reason the idea of an afterlife doesn't sit well with me.

dtewi, everyone could be immortal. Your family and all your friends could be with you so you wouldn't be alone by yourself on the planet.

We are not meant to live forever, I think 90% of us would've gone stark raving mad after a couple of centuries, doubly so if we spent 2-3 times longer than we do now as old and sickly shades of our former selves.
With immortality we would loose our love of life and everything would seem meaningless imo.

If everyone was immortal, then immortality would not exist.

Ponder and reply.

wow, I agree, I don't think I'll like the power to be immortal. It would be fun to see the future, and all the inventions that are invented, but when everyone else is gone you'll be alone, then you'll get to a point where your too lonely and just want to die...but you can't, your immortal.

Well, Torillian, you have a point there. But, a lot of people wouldn't want to leave their precious stuff.

Also, at the rate young people like us are dying right now, who wouldn't want immortality? I mean, so many people nowadays are dying before they even reach 30. That's just sad as hell.
