Forums - Gaming - epic games wont ever make games for the wii

Hehe, as expected.

I like how he calls it a "virus," when that's exactly how one would also describe "a product that everyone likes so much that when they show their friends their friends also go out and buy it."

oh man i lost all respect for epic...your supposed to be an unbiased game developer...but im still gonna buy gears or war 2...

I HATE YOU but im still gonna buy your shit.

Gears of War and UT3 would sell very well if they came to the Wii. It is Epic's loss not making games for the Wii.

Here's Tim Sweeney CEO of Epic Games at GDC. Take a look at what Epic is all about and then you realise the stuff they are creating has no place on the Wii.

Well by that logic they have no place on the PS3 or 360 as well and should be sticking to high end PC's.

actually there are very few PC games that look significantly better than PS3/360 games. Mostly higher resolutions and more AA on high-end PCs. I am pretty sure that PS3 and 360 are much more powerful gaming machines than the average PC or even 90% of PCs. Contrast this with the Wii.
But to be more specific on PS3/360/PC they can reuse their shader architecture because all of these platforms have pretty recent graphic cards with Shader Language 3 etc. On the Wii they wouldn't even have a pixel or vertex shader.

Epic Games' president, Mike Capps, reiterated what Epic has previously said in an interview with IGN, stating that Epic won't ever be developing games for the Wii. It's not about the success of the platform to him, but what can be done on it. When asked whether there would ever be a time when Epic would be forced to give in and create a game for the Wii, Capps said, "no, we go forward, not back. It makes more sense for us to invest in the next-generation tech."

He is mistaken.  The road turned. He is going off in the direction of the spec race from the past instead of forward to the controls and game play.   Nothing wrong with that, as there is more than one way to get from point A to point B, but he is mistaken to think the wii is going back.

meh...i'll play their games on pc anyways

They must really be afraid of the Wii success. With a smaller user base on the HD consoles, they lose money on their engine business (more like lose opportunities).
For me this is kinda fun, I expect much more to come as the Wii user base grows.

Good, continue giving them money so that they can fund their HD projects.

High five!
