Finally another opportunity to openly incur wrath upon myself :P

MARIO FRANCHISE. 1-Super mario world were fantastic masterpieces with a ton of secret stuff littered throughout the various worlds, multiple ways to "cheat" hundreds of lives, speed up music as you neared the end of the stage, just overall amazing character for a series, I feel the 3D mario's were fun, but DEFINITELY over-rated, 64-Galaxy can suck the O-stick ;)

Zelda OOT. Great game, but once I unlocked everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, I had literally 0 reason to ever start a new file. As I mentioned Great game, but greatest in history? Please, your not even the greatest amongst your kind, IMO A link to the past > OOT.

Metroid Prime Series. The LAST THING Metroid needed to be, was a generic FPS. I've played 1, and could hardly stomach it for more than about an hour of various moments throughout my friends file. I'm one of those guys who LOVED Super Metroid, it was interesting, had some creative uses for the various weapons, had the BEST tools/equipment, man life was good. They sucked everything I loved from that game out and made my beloved an FPS ;/ a boring one at that. Mindless back-tracking in a First Person Shooter FTL.

Pokemon. Sorry Naz, I played one, and was only mildly interested in it to begin with, I almost can't look in my daily trash mail adds and not see some new version of Pokemon, which everyone and their mother buys still... .FOR SOME REASON. The Pokemon games feel so much less connected than anything I've like ever played, HOW THE FU*K AM I SUPPOSED TO COLLECT THEM ALL IF YOU KEEP ADDING THESE FORKERS. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP.

RESIDENT EVIL... PERIOD. I gave a few extra spaces just to point out what a piece of shit series I find this to be. I DON'T GET IT. People give me the whole Graphics =/ game play babble all the time, yet this is a series that LITERALLY has nothing other than graphics to offer. Well.. maybe a decent ambient noise.

Convoluted/retarded story. Check

MORBIDLY HORRID controls. Check

Worst voice acting you've probably ever heard in a video game. Check

Predictable and still not even "scary" instances. Check

Shitty implementation of almost every "new feature" that anyone could hope for... GOD check. (Worst real time event's I've ever seen, new "turn around feature" was god awful, it's final move to the over the shoulder sucked my ass in the worst kind of way)

I sat down and attempted to play RE4 exactly 4 times now, my friend and I sit there, and laugh our ass off for so long because it's just such a shitty game, and we HAVE to put it down out of disgust every time. I for the life of me will never understand this series's ratings, it's insane fanbase, the hype, pretty much ANYTHING about this rust covered hype turd.

Halo series. Good, not the insane amount of sales it has good, and most certainly not a 10/10 for 3 >_>; And personally, I think it's multi-play is meh at best ;/

Gears of War. Seriously. This game took me a little over 5 hours to beat, had like 8 weapons, little enemy variety, terrible story, lackluster multi. BUT HEY, it had fantastic graphics :D

Crackdown. Ok wtf guys, it's fun... but not great at all >_> The graphics were kinda lacking, the story and point were as generic as they come, and the weapons were almost useless when you got your strength maxed. Did anyone drive in this game? I played the Hulk game on the PS2 and found it to be similar to this, just better sadly >_>;

Ninja Gaiden series. Sigh Everyone's heard my endless rants about this game like at least 3 times... Not even worth the effort anymore.

Tekken Series, I dunno, I just never liked it... it seems so B-game. I just don't like the flow, and flow is important for a fighting game.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Mortal Kombat series ... I never get why it was so popular back in the old days , I mean it was/is a mediocre fighting game

Good answer there but how about Final Fantasy games. What is so exciting about an ultra boring RPG with all the characters in it under 10 years of age? I can not see it.

Crackdown - this game was pretty fun, though a bit bizarre at time but in game advertising that doesn't pertain directly to the game needs to fucking die.

Team Fortress 2 - They could of done sooo much with it but instead it's basically Team Fortress Classic with a great art style. The good news is the remainder of Orange Box is fantastic.

Blast Corps - Just frustrating to play... I hated this game.

Harvest Moon (any ps2 version) - these were such garbage. Sloppy ports... I understand the GC versions were better. (note: I don't hate harvest moon, just the ps2 ports)

LoZ: Majora's Mask - i hated the side quests, just felt pretty recycled overall.

Legend of Zelda: OoT, GTA IV and Halo 3 are three of the most over rated games of all time.

Especially Legend of Zelda: OoT. 32 reviewers say it is the highest ranked game of all time and we have to take their word for it? Get real. Legend of Zelda:OoT is far from being the best Nintendo game or even best Zelda game of all time.

We've had this thread about ten times haha.

Final Fantasy VII of course, Metal Gear Solid 2, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII and Gran Turismo.
Pretty much anything that's big on Playstation...
Also, Mario Sunshine, worst main Mario game ever (?).
All the Smash Bros. games, fun with lots of fan service, but overrated.
Lost Planet, ok game that sold like a great game.
DOA series, weakest major fighting franchise outside of Mortal Kombat.
Resistance and Uncharted, good games but they are overrated.
Perfect Dark series, Goldeneye was better.
Banjo Kazooie series.
Killer Instinct, makes Mortal Kombat look good.
Pretty much anything big from Rare, except Goldeneye, Viva Pinata, Kameo (rated accordingly).
I've got to disagree on Sunshine, mostly on the basis that lots of people don't actually seem to like it that much. How then is it overrated? You have to go back to SMB2 (or even SMB2j!) to find another main-series Mario game people think as little of.

Also, IMO the first Perfect Dark was the shit. It was definitely superior to Goldeneye.

No comment on the rest, except to say that apparently Killer Instinct isn't/wasn't a major fighting franchise?

If Sunshine is bad, then every other Mario game made is bad.

It's certainly a lot less linear than Galaxy, which is a good thing in my book.

Sunshine is quite underrated imo. I'm not sure why so many people had problems with that game. I love it just as much as SM64 and SMG (possibly better than SMG).

Mario Sunshine was on the dreaded Game Cube that is the main reason it is overlooked. You can count on one hand the good games on the Game Cube.

> Super Smash Bros. Melee

> Super Mario Sunshine

> Mario Kart Double Dash

> Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

> The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker

> The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

> The Legend Of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure

> Metroid Prime

> Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

> Star Fox: Adventures

> Resident Evil

> Resident Evil 4

> Battalion Wars

> Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

> F-Zero GX

> Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

You sir have alot of fingers.

FF8 had better graphics, a more compelling story and the best side-game in ff history: Triple-Triad.

you got to be joking No I wasn't :) (that one was easy...)

Jenova, Reunion, cloning, wicked-science, SOLDIER, Shinra, Clouds crisis, Aeris' destiny, Zacks tragedy etc.
no way the story of FFVIII comes close to that of VII

Like I said, the story is so abstract and convoluted that it got to the point of being ridiculous. This was sort of pointed out by AC's story, no one except FF7 fans truly got the plot and even then there were some parts that were confusing. I'm not saying that FF7 had a *expletive* story, I'm saying it's an over-rated one.

and who cares that the grafix of VIII are a little better

Okay, the graphics were ALOT better, and represented the first time the characters looked realistic, that's a pretty big step for the franchise.

the grafix of VII are better than all those games on the SNES and Genesis
so what?

What you forget my friend is that FFVII was running on PS1, where as games on a SNES and genesis, were well, running on a SNES or GENESIS.

Fact of the matter is, Square poured all this money into developing the game, the graphics could have been alot better (as was seen in 8 and 9). I know people will say it's the first game on the platform so graphics can't be expected to be that great, but what irritates me and what makes me make the point about the graphics is that FF7 fanatics will claim that it had awesome graphics, when in reality it had terrible graphics AND awesome cgi video and backgrounds.

drawing was cool, but no where near what you can do with slots and materia

I agree with you on that one, though I preferred drawing as opposed to MP.

there are hundreds of combinations etc
Sephiroth, Cloud, Aeris, Vincent, Tifa have becomes all icons

They are only icons because of the game they were in, except for maybe Cloud and Sephiroth. If Squall and Rinoa were in FF7 and Cloud and Aerith in FF8, you'd be saying that they were the icons.

The only true main characters that have become icons of the franchise:

- Vivi

- Cloud

- Sephiroth

-  Kefka

Zell, Seifer, Rinoa and Ultimecia and others have no way made a legeacy like the FFVII cast, Nomura's finest

Like I said, it was the game they were in, because FF7 provided the first for many aspects of the franchise, that's why it is heralded as the best by many as the best game in the series and that's why the characters were so memorable (even though they are all stereotypes, pretty stereotypical that the first coloured main character also happens to be the first to utter profanity).

people really dislike FFVII so much while it's a extrodinary game
I've talked about it with Uematsu-san myself in Stockholm when I was there for a concert of him, and he really loves the game too

That's pretty sweet that you met Uematsu, but again, that's his opinion, you have your opinion and I have mine. Mine is that while it's a great game and important to the franchise, it is not the best game in FF history (thus making it overrated)

I always see a lot biased FFVII hate

I always see a lot of biased FFVIII hate from people that thought FF7 was the pinnacle of the FF franchise
people can't stand that

it came, it saw and it conquered

and you know it

:P

Hey I thought this thread was about people being able to hate on games with out any retribution.........

But my response to your comments is above.

how can you say that the halo fanchise got so many people into gaming and you say its overated why dont you go play the game again and then come back and say sorry =)

I had to stop reading your post at this point because it really made me question whether you had ever played any of the games you were saying were over-rated. Of all of the things you can claim about the Metroid Prime games, being a 'Generic First Person Shooter' is not one of them ... The Metroid Prime games play far more like The Legend of Zelda than any First Person game; the Z-Targeting, Boss Battles, and focus on puzzles is not like anything ever done in a First Person Shooter I can recall.

Personally, I see a comment like that as being similar to someone saying "I couldn't get into Grand Theft Auto 4 because it is just a generic racing game!" ...
