I've played 1, and could hardly stomach it for more than about an hour of various moments throughout my friends file. I'm one of those guys who LOVED Super Metroid, it was interesting, had some creative uses for the various weapons, had the BEST tools/equipment, man life was good. They sucked everything I loved from that game out and made my beloved an FPS ;/ a boring one at that. Mindless back-tracking in a First Person Shooter FTL.

I had to stop reading your post at this point because it really made me question whether you had ever played any of the games you were saying were over-rated. Of all of the things you can claim about the Metroid Prime games, being a 'Generic First Person Shooter' is not one of them ... The Metroid Prime games play far more like The Legend of Zelda than any First Person game; the Z-Targeting, Boss Battles, and focus on puzzles is not like anything ever done in a First Person Shooter I can recall.
Personally, I see a comment like that as being similar to someone saying "I couldn't get into Grand Theft Auto 4 because it is just a generic racing game!" ...
