Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Jeff Grub: Kojima in talks with MS to publish his next game

This may very well be true, why not. Whatever, as long as they are working on something new for Sony as well. Something that is not like DS. It was OK, I enjoyed it well enough but it wasn't great. The world barely had any meat on its bones and outside of the main story(and even within it a little), it really felt like a mailman simulator. Beautiful, but empty.

Would be amazing if it’s actually a horror game. Anything else, meh.

I'm getting Blue Dragon vibes all over again.

That game was MS exclusive, it had Hironobu Sakaguchi and even had Akira Toriyama as the artist, yet didn't do as big as what MS had hoped.

But lets hope im wrong here.

The guy is known for a number of games considered "masterpieces" and one game that was "good, just not THAT good" and ya'll acting like he is washed up, done and no longer a draw? This forum is really funny at times.

Ugh, almost believed it, till i saw Jeff Grubb.

I liked BD a lot but it still got 2 more games on DS and an anime.

What's really depressing is the Far East of Eden series died on 360. In Japan, that series was nearly as popular as Dragon Quest for a while. They kept pumping out games for years then decided let's put an exclusive main game in the series on 360.  I wish Cry-On wasn't canceled either.

Did Death Stranding flop then? Surely if it had done well then Sony would've wanted to continue working with him.

Sony do not own kojima production so MS could have just handed over a bigger check. These are talks so nothing is confirmed. Gamepass could also be of appeal in order to reach a wider audience.

Regarding Death Stranding, it wasn't a flop but I could see how Sony might  not want to put similarly niche titles at the forefront of their marketing. For how expensive it looks, its extremely polarising and unlike all the other games Sony has been pushing.

In my experience you don't look for another deal elsewhere unless the deal you had is bad or doesn't seem like it's going to continue. I haven't heard anything about Kojima having been unhappy working with Sony, so that would suggest Sony haven't offered a deal for another game.

What makes you think he wasnt offered a better deal by a competitor?

pitch the game not the dev
this idea that AAA games are based only on the input of one person needs to piss off

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

His history.

As far as I know nobody tried to poach him while he was at Konami and in the end they seemed more than happy for him to go. He wasn't even looking to leave so if they had wanted to keep him they didn't even need to do anything, just maintain the status quo. They wanted him gone though.

He just seems much more like the type to go round cap in hand begging for the resources to create his games rather than somebody that's in demand. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's how the Sony deal happened either, he was going round looking for somebody to help finance his new game and they were the only ones willing to help out, rather than they specifically sought him out. So if this MS rumour is true I'd assume the same.
