It's because you linked to a page and comment number. If someone sets their posts-per-page to a different number, it fucks up, and page 11 may not exist for them, so it redirects them to the homepage.
That thread for me, for example, only has three pages. Your new link works fine since it's page one, which every thread has regardless of post count.

Yup, that works. I have 75 posts per page.
I have aged since the last thread. Now I am 28 years old.
I'll turn 26 in August
