If anything, PS2 is eating more of the PSP's sales than the PS3's.

This is a well timed, thread, I bought a PS2 today from my local GAME retailer, why, so many great games, I now have one at my house and one at the grandparents. Also it makes a superb CD/DVD player, its compact, stylish. Just really dam good to be honest.

As I said in this thread:
"Every PS2 sold continues to be a 'win' for Sony. It generally delays that user from upgrading to any of the newer systems. And the longer that transition takes, the more likely that user will buy a Playstation product in the future. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)"
The PS2 is a great, inexpensive console that Sony makes money on. I bet a sizable portion of sales are replacement units (probably about 10-25%) and for younger gamers (about another 25%). I know I wouldn't buy a 7 year old a PS3. :P
Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

Everytime I've seen anyone buying the PS2 over the last year it was for GH or Rockband. Those (and likely other casual games) are keeping it going. If Wii benefits the same next generation it could end up outlasting the PS3.
It's cheap and it has plenty of great games. So it appeals to those who are casual gamers and those who never had the money for one until now, or maybe a gamer who just didn't buy a PS2.
The PS2 is cheap compared to this generation of consoles, so a good alternative is to buy it as it's been out for a while and has a big library of games.

no it won't
u still can't deny the extensive library of the PS2 games and GoW3 will not change that
Cheap hardware and software. Pretty simple really. The vast majority of people aren't early adopters.
There isn't one person out there buying all the Ps2s silly. why would one person want so many playstations? Its many people buying them and they are obviously doing so because they are cheaper, take up less space, and have many many awesome cheap games.
I think some of my cousins buy it after the N64 or the PSone (yes they haven't even catched to last-gen yet)
