Forums - Movies & TV - Predator 5 announced from 20th Century Studios | Dan Trachtenburg (10 Cloverfield Lane) Directing

[SOURCE]

20th Century Studios has engaged 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to direct the fifth installment in the Predator series. The script is being written by Patrick Aison, whose producer/writer credits include the series Kingdom, Jack Ryan and Treadstone.

They are keeping the plot line under wraps for the moment, but I’m told it won’t swing back to the developments in the last film. Fox made its last entry in the 2018 thriller The Predator. That film was directed by Shane Black, who played one of the original castmembers in the 1987 film that kicked off the series and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Black played one of the team of commandos who winds up being tracked and killed in gory fashion by the extraterrestrial hunter.

It can't be any worse than The Predator, right?

Around the Network

Honestly after The Predator I had hoped they'd do the same Halloween did and soft reboot the series. 10 Cloverfield Lane is great but thats Dan Trachtenberg's only film so this could go either way.

As a lover of 80s films and franchises and considers it the best decade in film. I'm tired of sequels and remakes and reboots of 80s films. The 80s were great because so much of it was new. Do that again instead of milking old series.

I certainly hope not. I still can't believe that a cast member of the original Predator, one of the finest 80's movies managed to ruin such an amazing concept.

I'm a huge fan of the Alien/Predator series so I'm cautiously optimistic. 10 Cloverfield Lane was actually really good.

I had previously lost all hope after the awful AvP movies that spit on the amazing concept from the comics but Predators was a really good movie so it's not like this franchise hasn't made a comeback in the past.

I think the best idea would be to set the foundations for an Extended Universe including stuff from Alien, Predator and Prometheus. The comics have already done that and they're awesome. But what do I know? They most likely will make another individual Predator movie with hopes for a Trilogy or something, lose at the box-office and then reboot the series again in 8-10 years or so.

Sigh...

On the one hand, part of me wants them to just let the series rest in peace. The only good Predator movie in my opinion is the amazing original, everything since has been inferior.

On the other, 10 Cloverfield Lane was an excellent film, so you never know.

For the moment, I'm not getting my hopes up.
