20th Century Studios has engaged 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to direct the fifth installment in the Predator series. The script is being written by Patrick Aison, whose producer/writer credits include the series Kingdom, Jack Ryan and Treadstone.

They are keeping the plot line under wraps for the moment, but I’m told it won’t swing back to the developments in the last film. Fox made its last entry in the 2018 thriller The Predator. That film was directed by Shane Black, who played one of the original castmembers in the 1987 film that kicked off the series and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Black played one of the team of commandos who winds up being tracked and killed in gory fashion by the extraterrestrial hunter.

It can't be any worse than The Predator, right?

I certainly hope not. I still can't believe that a cast member of the original Predator, one of the finest 80's movies managed to ruin such an amazing concept.

I'm a huge fan of the Alien/Predator series so I'm cautiously optimistic. 10 Cloverfield Lane was actually really good.

I had previously lost all hope after the awful AvP movies that spit on the amazing concept from the comics but Predators was a really good movie so it's not like this franchise hasn't made a comeback in the past.

I think the best idea would be to set the foundations for an Extended Universe including stuff from Alien, Predator and Prometheus. The comics have already done that and they're awesome. But what do I know? They most likely will make another individual Predator movie with hopes for a Trilogy or something, lose at the box-office and then reboot the series again in 8-10 years or so.

Sigh...
