To my knowledge Microsoft hasn't paid for a deal like this since 2013 (when Don Mattrick signed a 4 year deal for FIFA Ultimate Team exclusive content), before Phil Spencer became head of Xbox. Phil has specifically spoken out against deals that lock DLC or game modes to a single platform.

Yakuza like a dragon ps5 releases four months after releasing on all the other platforms. What is the reason for that?

Just a plain old timed exclusive deal? MS never stopped doing those. He’s referring to deals where a game is chopped up and parts are made exclusive or timed exclusive. Like here with CoD, or the MS FIFA deal he referenced.

Both companies have plenty of timed exclusive deals in their launch lineups.

Around the Network

Sony buys 1 yr exclusivity on a small part of a game which most people won't bother with.
MSFT buys a studio

Not sure why people are making a fuss over the Sony thing. Yeah its not nice but thats the world we live in. Exclusivity is how we chose our consoles.

These kinds of threads in a nutshell.

But yes this is shit, just like every other timed exclusive unless you're in the ecosystem. If you're going to blame someone, its the publishers for letting it happen.

Just to clarify this is separate from the traditional Zombies mode. This seems to be an extra mode. The original Zombies experience will be available on all platforms.

The Thread Title is a tad misleading.

Interesting, didn't realize. So what is the difference between the 2 modes?

Zombies is one of the 3 Core Modes in COD which breaks down like this. Campaign + Multiplayer + Zombies. Zombies has been popular since its introduction in COD WAW. It is a 4-player co-op mode that is structured as its own Left 4 Dead - style campaign with unique settings, characters, and even cutscenes. Having the Zombies mode timed-exclusive to one console would be a major blow/coup and fundamentally alter the value proposition of the game.

Zombie Onslaught on the other hand seems to be confined to 2 co-op players. You play on stages adapted from the multiplayer maps. You move around the map and shoot different hordes of zombies but it seems to lack the progression of the traditional Zombie mode. Considerably smaller and more limited.

Wow... I hope it wasn't a big cheque then. Sounds mediocre at best. Even by CoD standards.
