I was dissapointed in Twilight Princess because of the lack of new gameplay elements.
Yes, there were some nice additions, but horse fights were not used very often and things like flying etc. really felt tacked - on.
What I felt most ripped of about though was the lack of sidequests. All heart pieces (nearly all) were SCREAMING to be found and besides the usual "more arrows, more bombs" sidequests (which were actually dump like nothing I´ve ever seen before) there wasn´t a lot to do. Yes, fishing. But that´s all.
In previous Zelda games, every heart piece was a small adventure. You had to help people to get them or use puzzles. In Majoras Mask there were more than 20 masks to find. Were has this gone in Twilight Princess? Were is my second Sword? The third shield? Why are there less items than in previous Zelda games?
If you ask me, Twilight Princess didn´t live up to it´s hype as all Zelda games in the past gave you a "full" atmosphere - if you thought of Ocarina of Time you didn´t just think of the main quest but also about the sidequests and the many things you could do when you didn´t want to enter the next dungeon.
But Twilight Princess was just the main quest for me when I look back. You didn´t need the heartpieces because the game was so easy, the bottles were useless as soon as you got the second one (because you didn´t need more), there was no use of the big pockets (because you didn´t need that much rupees) and the same goes for arrows and bombs. It really felt kinda tacked on.
Today my score for Twilight Princess would be 89% but nothing more. It tried too much to be like a 10 year old game but it failed to match that games quality, which is sad.
On the other hand I can still see why everyone loved the Ocarina of Time, as I´d still give it a higher rating, even if you compare those two games head to head. I even like it´s graphics better.
