Forums - Sony Discussion - Playstation's new rule about recording conversations.

Do you believe this new policy is something to worry about?

Yes. 12 50.00%

No. 12 50.00%

Total:24

Moderation sounds like a horrible reason for such a privacy invasion. Opt-in is OK but forced recording is not. Suddenly the built-in microphone in the DualSense doesn't seem like such a great idea. On the upside, this doesn't affect all usage of the system (at least for now).

I don't even get what the point of this is. Private party chats? Why would anybody even want to report somebody for something in that? If somebody's a dickhead just don't invite them into your party chats, problem solved.

Maybe because you want to do more about racist/ homophobic/ transphobic people and their slurs.

MS has this feature already. If you don't like it, then you can opt out.

By using that feature you agree to the new rule, meaning you can only use it if you agree with the new terms of service. It's not so simple as to just opt out.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Apparently the latest update for the PS4 has been causing quite a lot of concern. After the PS4 8.00 update, it seems that chat conversations will be able to be recorded and sent to Sony for "moderation", causing immediate concerns about privacy and possible misuses of this policy.

You can already record your friends voices on the PS4. I have plenty of recordings of my friends on my HDD.

Recording is done locally on user's PS5 consoles and not on PSN servers. Party voice chat recordings are submitted to SIE whenever a user submits a voice chat report from their PS5 console.

Microsoft have the exact same feature.

Why are you friends with racist/homophobic/transphobic people?

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

Just for the record, Sony has recently posted about this on PlayStation Blog. This changes nothing for me, but this piece might clarify things for some people here:

Please note that this feature will not actively monitor or listen in on your conversations – ever – and it’s strictly reserved for reporting online abuse or harassment.

I have a honest question to OP, do you have a PS4 for it to spy you?

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I remember everyone charged against the original XBOne about the kinect being always on and recording, yet this seems ok?
I'm not even sure if this is even legal, I don't know if Sony can unilaterally decide to record an user's voice.

Sony doesn't record people's voice.
This is a feature for users to save audio clips of people in their party, that they can then submit to Sony moderators for review.

This should be clarified in the OP.

For the record you could always record your gameplay before in video format, and in the settings chose whether chat audio should be included or not.
This is seemingly just going to make it easier to do, and to prove who said what, etc.

Xbox was under fire for “always listening” with Kinect. I guess Sony didn’t get the memo.

The PS5 isn't 'always listening' or doing anything on its own. This is a feature for users to save voice clips of people in their chat group and submit them for moderator review.
You could always save video clips on PS4 and if you wanted to include chat audio. Or just game audio. Depends on your settings.

It's amazing how quickly people jumped to conclusions on this.
