God I love these misinformed posts.

In terms of “fixing” they have adopted a hands off approach where they don’t interfere with development. Inexile explained how MS gave them money, new offices and allowed a delay of Wasteland 3 for voice acting and general polish. Psychonauts 2 also delayed into 2021 because they needed more time. Halo Infinite delayed for polish instead of MS forcing a holiday launch. Turn 10 stopped their 2 year cycle for Forza Motorsport so they can polish their engine and make a great next gen impression.

As for varied.....Ori, Gears Tactics, Minecraft Dungeons, Flight SIM, Tell Me Why, Battletoads, Wasteland 3.....all literally a different genre. All these games got good scores, Ori 2 and Flight SIM in the 90s. Sorry to say but MS doing both. They got the money to do both. Your post completely ignores what they have done with their other studios.

Kudos to flight sim, but that's about it.  That was coming and is pc focused. Psychonaughts 2 isn't a big game, and they had years working on halo and was delayed cause of the backlash. What i'm saying is microsoft could have done a lot better. Forza was never an issue. That game is their best exclusive and has been their most consistent in quality. In my opinion halo hasn't been the same since bungie left, and gears went downhill after cliffy b left. I also wish microsoft could have secured some deal to bring splintel cell back to it's former glory.

Everyone could do better. Doesn’t change they have better genre variety and their hands off approach is clearly a good strategy.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

You guys should be more concerned with Microsoft monopolizing the gaming market and absorbing other companies under their corporate banner.

Monopoly is defined by marketshare, not assets owned. Therefore if you against monopolies your beef is with Sony. So long as they win Europe and Asia Xbox will always have work to do.

I'm more concerned with your post history and count. Smells like alt material if you ask me. Vast majority on this site will post in other topics and what not over the course of a year, while you seemingly blip in and out of existence every 1-2 years.

@Chazore What does me posting irregularly have to do with the topic at hand? Maybe I work 40+, have a social life and life responsibilities. I'm not you I cannot afford to spend all my time posting and playing video games.

There's 24hrs in a day, you get some time off to sleep like everyone else, time you're currently spending on here at this very moment. Your post history doesn't exactly line up with everyone else's, even people who have been here for longer than 6-7+yrs. Why suddenly after a year or two, do you take interest in this topic and cite MS as something bad?, why only now?.

Also, we can have social lives outside the site just as much as you do, and still find time on our mobile devices or desktops to make more posts than you do, without having to devote ourselves here 24/7.

Let's move on and stick to the topic rather than troll with memes or question another users posting history.

"You can't wake up one day and say, 'Let me build a game studio,'" Nadella said in an interview after the company announced its $7.5 billion cash purchase of ZeniMax Media, which owns several industry-leading game developers, including Bethesda Softworks and Id Software. "The idea of having content is so we can reach larger communities."

That's why Microsoft will consider buying even more video game companies in the future, he said, and why it continues to invest in its Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

Good going Sony. You've awakened the bear.

First of all, in regards to what Satya said about waking up and building a new studio about.... Yes, yes you can, actually. Especially if you have lots of money. Isnt that how they  have developed a few of their studios?

But while that comment is a bit silly, the decision to buy Bethesda was fairly smart. And it will be interesting to see where MS go from here. Considering the eye-watering sum they paid for Bethesda, I wouldnt have thought they would be wanting to buy any further studios anytime soon (despite still having tons of cash), and my guess is they will take time so consolidate the Bethesda studios. But who knows.

On a separate note, I find the smugness of some of the comments here (and elsewhere on the site) hilarious. All MS did was throw in the towel and admit that they would be unable to compete on a level playing field. Having said that, this is a completely valid tactic for them to take, and a smart one.

It is interesting that the X1X had a lot more variety this ggen. It reminds me of Sony during the PS3 era where they made a lot of games (and varieties) to try and win back gamers. Arguably, Sony did a much better job of this in their time compared to MS with the X1X.

On a separate note, I do want to also point out that a hands-off approach ISN'T always the best thing and wouldnt always fit all devs. The key ia to have a balanced approach and guide as needed. Sony are generally known for being handsoff but there are a few instances where they have stood firm and forced devs to make changes with great results (two that come to mind are Sony pushing Naughty Dog to make the 1st Uncharted which they reportedly didn't want to do, as well as cancelling Sony Santa Monica's 1st game on the PS4 before they got on to GOW).

The point is that letting devs lead will frequently get you great results but sometimes it is beeter to step in and provide direction. We do not yet know how MS is doing in that regard as a lot of the devs they purchased recently have yet to release their games.

Those zenimax titles by bethesda were already expected to come to xbox as multiplats, so I don't count them as microsoft exclusives per say. Since microsoft have talked a lot in the past, and now it's time to see if they can deliver on exclusives and publish their own great games, alongside what ever bethesda makes. If they show initiative I might consider getting a series s down the line.
