Yet they have stated that when it comes to exclusive games for the zenimax purchase it will be a case by case basis. They also still release minecraft on PS4 which is a massive seller with kids. Removing that from Sony could have made some people switch over this new gen.

When Elder Scrolls sells 200 million then maybe it’s a relatable example haha. Minecraft is too big to limit, as much as I’d like to see MS be more aggressive with it.

Case by case can easily mean Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online. Both have a dedicated community and getting next gen versions wouldn’t be out of the question. Case in point it would be a dick move to no longer include PS.

But MS seemingly has a simple rule: if a game has been announced as multiplat, MS will honour it. If not, then it’s theirs. Elder Scrolls and Starfield had a reveal trailer, but no platforms were announced. Also why games like Hellblade 2 are only going to Xbox.

They were specifically asking him about future games not games already released. Your explanation for Minecraft only furthers my opinion on why MS should be selling it only on Xbox. It would make a killing for them and force kidsparents to buy the xboxgamepass.

Who cares what would be a D move. They purchased it and they should get it and make it exclusive. They are never going to get anywhere trying to be the good guys. They are being outsold by all their competitors and Nintendo crushed them easily even being released years later it's embarrassing. Also Starfield website did have a PS4 logo on it at one point so it was technically announced for Sony but MS has no issues removing it. They need to do more of that this is business.

A lot of their decisions though lead me to believe they don't really want to compete with Nintendo and Sony anymore. I think they want to be the netflix of video games and eventually step away from the hardware other than like a streaming stick.

Oh wow I didn't know Phil said that. Do you have a link to him saying they can't legally say anything? I've discussed this on several forums and this is the first time I've heard someone say this.

He said it in an interview with GameReactor

So the Bethesda deal was monumental and took most of us by surprise. What do you hope to gain from this long-term, and I'm talking more broadly here than simply Bethesda titles making it to Game Pass on launch day?

First of all, I would like to say that we haven't acquired ZeniMax. We have announced our intention to acquire ZeniMax. It is going through regulatory approval and we don't see any issues there. We expect early in 2021 the deal will close. But I say that because I want people to know, I'm not sitting down with Todd Howard and Robert Altman and planning their future. Because I'm currently not allowed to do that, that would be illegal. Your question is completely inbound, but I get a lot of questions right now: "is this game exclusive? Is this game exclusive?" And right now, that is not my job in regards to ZeniMax. My job is not to sit down and go through their portfolio and dictate what happens.

MS is making this whole thing so confusing. Then why even said it would be a case by case basis? Todd Howard I think recently came out and said the same.

Minecraft was already released on the PS4 before Microsoft acquired it. I could see a scenario where there will be an updated version for the Xbox Series X/S and not a PS5 version.  Just the PS4 version being backwards compatible on the PS5.

When the deal is finalized next year I imagine things will be more clear

Nothing to disagree here. Except that probably only few people willing to sacrifice buying two consoles only to play Bathesda games. In fact probably they just buy on PC if they have proper spec or just running it on cloud if they have proper internet speed. Bethesda going to Microsoft is not a major loose for Sony but is a win for Microsoft if they releasing their games on other platform as well.

Microsoft can still make a lot of money even without Xbox console, in fact Microsoft has spread their love to other platform within their ecosystem. Their marketing is not focusing only to sell Xbox consoles , and they cannot , because if they want to succeed with gamepass,  than console is irrelevant for their future long terms profit and growth.

MS wants gamers to join into their ecosystem. Releasing games on PS5 is counter productive of what their ultimate goal is.

You can literally say the same thing about Sony and make the argument they could make more money only sell software or subs if they really wanted to. The console is another piece of the hardware puzzle. There will always be gamers who prefer consoles or can only play consoles because their internet is bad so streaming isn't an option, or they don't want to deal with PC gaming, and the upfront costs of PC gaming. Consoles will always be a more accessible hardware option.

I know you're trying really hard to convince yourself MS is better off releasing games on PS5, but they're not.

Lets wait and see. Also Minecraft has VR version for PS5 :) . If they are not intended to support PS product they will not make VR version on it.

I wasn't aware that PS5 had VR yet, I thought it was PS4 VR backwards compatibility.  I thought it was going to be a while for PS5 VR, thanks for letting me know.

Sorry i mean PS4 VR. But still Minecraft VR is new even for PS4 version and different compared to normal Minecraft .

Yes every sold copy of minecraft on the ps3 was to be returned the moment MS bought the IP
what a great and valid argument bringing up minecraft makes

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Can’t wait to see the meltdowns when Starfield is confirmed to not have a PS version :)
