Forums - Gaming Discussion - Lord of the Ring: Gollum loses next-gen exclusive status, gets PS4/XB1/Switch versions

I imagine the Switch version will be outsourced. Let's hope panic button or Sabre got the job.

In their hands I'd have faith in it ending up okay. They've yet to put a foot wrong in the Switch porting business.

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023.

Whatever gen this is on, I kind of don't see the appeal of a whole game playing as Gollum.

As a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I have to agree.

As an even huger Lord of the Rings fan, I have to disagree.

I neeeeedz it

Could be an interesting game, Gollum’s an interesting character. A lot will depend on when this game will take place; considering we see Barad-Dur, I suppose it’s right before Fellowship of the Ring. Curious to see how the Switch port turns out, if I ever get this game it’d be on Switch.

My guess is that Daedelic wanted to get some kind of support from Sony or MS for next gen exclusive development but those talks ended without a good enough result and then they added more platform to the pipline to actually get some sales going.
Either that or it was a marketing stunt because of the next-gen hype and the other platforms were always planned.

Well with the lack of next gen console production I can see why. They're a 3rd party company after all so how else are they going to make money.

They probably thought it wouldn't have that many sales, and they decided to add more platforms to increase the potential userbase. I don't see playing as Gollum has that much appeal in general.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I honestly can't see this game selling very well even with the extra platforms. For one, I can't see many people wanting to play as Gollum to start with, and for two, alot of people are offput by how different Gollum looks from what they're used to, which is due to the fact that WB Interactive has the sole video game rights for the movie likenesses, so Daedalic purposefully had to make him look weird to avoid being sued by WB.

I would have preferred going back and forth between Frodo and Aragorn. With the occasional Gandalf, Gollum, and Sam.

Fuck it, you switch between all the members of the Fellowship depending on the point in the story you’re at.

I'll assemble this might also be done with unreal engine 4 if we're seeing a Switch port in this case.

I would have put Virtuos in that bracket, but the rushed Outer Worlds port has blotted their copybook slightly. They did a great job on Starlink and Dark Souls.
