Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: "There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order"

Sounds about right. I never believed those rumors they would ship more then Ps4 in the same period, especially if sold at a higher price.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

This page created so much more demand already I believe it will be the highest selling console launch ever

Tell me the price damn you

And the release date. We don't know both yet.

Rumors say 499$ (with dsicdrive) + 399$ (for digital version).
And the date is supposedly nov. 13th (theres multiple multiplat games comeing out at this exact date, where you expect them to be day1 for PS5).

well ok that 10 million was for the FY in that case and not 2020

This was my thought when seeing the title of the thread.
"wasn't there a rumor of 10million for it?"

I don't know what about this news suggests that the rumors (which they weren't by the way) of sony upping shipments for this fiscal year ending March 2021 to 10M units is false.

This is just sony selling PlayStations directly, and there will be shipments to every other retailer.

And at launch, price doesn't really have anything to do with things. If sony can get 5M units available worldwide between launch (nov) and December 2020, even with a price range of $399 - $499, and a 1.5:1 digital to physical SKU split (which I believe is what sony would be going for). They would still sell out of whatever they are able to ship.

For reference, in the same period Nov 2013 to March 2014, sony shipped a total of 7.5M PS4s. I don't think going up from that to 10M for the same period is out of the question.

Well, it will be limited to 5M worldwide.

I think they can beat PS4 even at $500...there are a lot of nerds mostly stuck in their homes right now. Going into next year things could change depending on the economy and the direction of covid-19, but I think 2020 is practically in the bag.

It’s gonna sell out, I’m talking when 2021 hits and momentum has to kick in. If PS5 goes for at least $100 more then Ps4 did plus the economy recession coupled with what seems to be an endless string of civil unrest, I just don’t see shipments beating Ps4 for same time period.

Even with all problems I'm pretty sure Sony wants the tagline that PS5 launch was a huge success and that it is selling faster than PS4 and they are having a hard time keeping with demand, so don't worry about lack of PS5 in stores during launch.
