Interesting, doesn't seem to have much actual correlation with sales, but interesting nonetheless.
Would like to know how do they check those numbers, tho.

Most likely they have a tool searching through PSN users, though I imagine if PSN users have a bunch of privacy settings on their accounts they aren't counted.

And yeah Players will always be higher than actual sales, especially the longer the game is out and the number of used copies increases. PS+ also for some of the older PS4 titles.

Fortnite is noticeably absent from the top played games, it is on the website but listed under "Fortnite: Save the World" at just 10m players, so my thinking is that for some reason only the Pay To Play singleplayer campaign is being counted, maybe it's an issue to do with the game using Epic Accounts? Hard to say, but doesn't seem accurate for this particular title. There's no way Apex Legends is beating it.

I mean, Uncharted 1 is ahead of God of War 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn and Bloodborne has like 4x its sales.

GT Sport also seem too low for an online focused game.

But it's cool nonetheless.

Bloodborne and Uncharted 1 (Nathan Drake Collection) were both free on PS+. I'm pretty sure I got Uncharted on PS3 with PS+ too.

GT Sport had 7.5m players as of December 2018 - https://www.gtplanet.net/gt-sport-has-around-7-5-million-players-according-to-my-ps4-life-feature/

So 12.4m as of now doesn't seem that unreasonable. It wasn't the best selling game, at least compared to previous GT titles.

Found their explanation: https://gamstat.com/how/

"Gamstat.com estimates are based on a representative sample of ~8 mln accounts retrieved via PSN API. The obtained data is extrapolated to all PSN accounts with a small margin of error."

So they estimate based on a sample size of around 8m they have access to and:

"By combining our graph with the numbers obtained via “MyPS4Life leak” we can scale it and calculate the absolute numbers for any PSN game, no matter the platform, and for any date – even for those released after the leak happened (like game “C” on this graph)."

I blame Patcher for this he started the rot.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

The numbers seem very random and don't really correlate to sales or official data.

But well, some games have a very big user count.

GT Sport is actually very well tracked
https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?stat_preset=nb_players_per_week

10,936,300 2020-07-26 to 2020-08-01

However that counts how many profile IDs have been made and plenty people make alt accounts (can make as many as you want on a primary console with a ps+ account attached) to race in different regions or to keep their 'main' account safe for FIA competition races.

There are still 790K players playing GT Sport weekly
https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?stat_preset=active_players_7_days
of which 97K (12%) participate in sport mode.

It's not a shooter....

Interesting infos, thank you!

Fantastic Sales =)
