They basically already did this.  The game was called Pong.  I suppose the original Pong system is the least trashy gaming system of all time.

Well, Ocarina of Time on the N64 is an unplayable mess by today's standards, but these games were products of their times and were very well received. So IMO it's a fairly fair comparison in general. I'm not a huge fan os sport games either (meaning I barely played any in my life) but if the target audience likes them, than who are we to judge?
