Good Lord. Microsoft has there work cut out for them! Some of these posts totally ripped them a new bootyhole. Good thing Microsoft saw this coming and got themselves a whole new Booty. Matt Booty, that is!

I still love 'em though. Despite their shortcomings, Xbox has given me my most played console two gens in a row. Looking forward to seeing what they show next month. They're gonna have to knock this one out of the park!

Thats definetly true. And Again, im not saying SoT cant have that, just that we dont know yet.

If it spikes again when it gets a re package for Series X launch I better hear some credit where it’s due, or at least no countering when I bring it up ;)

If it spikes and somewhat sustains, sure. If it spikes and dies again then we are in the same place.

Wont a repackage for series x contradict the smart delivery narrative?

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

I'd say Microsoft's biggest shortcomings prior to the launch of the Xbox One was their failure to "read the room".

7th gen was a strange beast. Things like motion controls, features ("It only does everything") and casual stuff like Guitar Hero seemed like the surefire route to success. Even power seemed like it wasn't necessary as the weakest console by far went on to be the best selling. Amongst other things, lot of that stuff went into the Xbox One launch and it just didn't look good compared to the PS4 which had pretty much no weaknesses compared to the One.

This gen, I feel like Microsoft has learned the error of their ways. Yeah, they've never really been the industry leader but what they have done in the past have catered to my personal tastes. If they can just get the launch right, they should do well.

I imagine they will make a physical release for newcomers who skipped out on XB1. In the event they gain back a portion lost this gen that had a 360 or newcomers in general. But cmon all spikes go down lol, the fact it spikes at all being 3 years old means something in itself. Nm, we just arguing hypotheticals now.

There's no arguing taste and I'm not saying you shouldn't be excited about Hellblade 2. It just strikes me odd how you're so in love with it, even calling the game being short as a plus as it makes it "intimate", and then write off all of Sony's critically acclaimed blockbuster as the same old "3rd person action adventure single player games" that are too long for your taste...

Like I said, not everybody is as loyal to a console brand as you and its silly to think Sony is getting so much hype just because of brand power. Sony's brand power didn't do them much good in the early ps3 days when the 360 was nailing it with games like Gears and Sony had nothing to get excited about. It was their exclusives, and MS completely dropping the ball later on, that got them through one of the worst console launches in video game history.

I also don't think Sony's ps5 reveal was perfect. It was a well put together, professional presentation and it showed glimpses of some of their big ip's that looked next gen. Imo there weren't any new ip's to get super excited about and in theory its definitely possible for MS to beat Sony's event in July. However, if its just going to be like their last presentation and show Halo, Forza and a bunch of indie titles with an "optimized for Series X" logo, can you then honestly blame anyone for feeling let down by MS again?

It’s really simple. Sure I’m loyal but I don’t have any illusions about other fans. They likely have their own story. They are drawn to other factors. I believe that covering the different genres is what brings in little niche crowds to the brand. I don’t like games like Ori but I know many people love that game. Hellblade is just one perfect example where the theme and narrative made the game appeal to me despite being in third person.

Personally I’d argue Sony’s brand power from PS2 is what saved it until it’s games kicked in (MGS4 in 2008 I believe is regarded as its turning point). Without the previous brand power it would have ended up like the Sega Saturn. Agree to disagree.

“going to be like their last presentation and show Halo, Forza and a bunch of indie titles”. I wouldn’t blame anybody for being let down. So would I. But we know that isn’t going to happen. Playground, Obsidian, Initiative, and Ninja Theory have been too quiet for too long. The beauty about Ms going after Sony is that they can gauge what people thought and what Sony showed, and try to top that. Usually they go before Sony at E3, FINALLY they played it smart by waiting a bit for the real show.

Generally speaking I think there are 4 types of games. Bad, Ok'ish, Good, and rare gems that are considered a must play. Maybe that's just me, but if any particular console brand has a bunch of games of the later category, it peaks my interest and I would buy a console just to play them. I bought a Switch just to play BOTW, for example, and the OG Xbox mainly for Halo. Therefore, I just find it hard to believe that anyone, who sees games like TLOU 2, GOW, HZD etc. getting 96 Metacritic scores, wouldn't feel any desire to play them. Yet the one single game that is coming to your platform of choice happens to be your most favorite ip of the entire generation, even when it's a 6 hour long game with a 80 Metacritic score. I get that you're into viking history and all, but come on.

And no, all those studios you mentioned haven't been quiet for too long. Ninja Theory just released Bleeding Edge, Mojang just released Minecraft Dungeons, Playground released Forza Horizon 4: Lego Speed Champions in 2019, The Coalition just released Gears Tactics for pc, Obsidian is working on some indie kid game called Grounded and 343 Studios seems to be hiring for a new Halo Wars. Except for Gears Tactics all of their new releases is sitting on a 70 or lower Metacritic score.

Surely you must notice a pattern here. Most of MS's studios are busy making small scale type of games to fill up the GP library. That's why I'll remain skeptical and keep my expectations in check, but I truly do hope they'll prove me wrong in July.

I explained myself enough. You skeptical that’s not on me. I think it’s a safe bet to say that Xbox plans to cover more genres then PS. And that will attract crowds that like said genres. MS clearly trying to capture the 3rd person narrative crowd that can’t get enough of PS4 exclusives, so let’s see how that goes.

Bleeding Edge is a small game, where as Hellblade came out a few years ago. I didn’t mention Mojang or Coalition, but Playgrounds 2nd studio was what I was referring to. Again, Grounded is a small team, the bulk of Obsidian is working on a unannounced AAA game while the rest is working on Outer Worlds DLC. 343 will finally release a Halo game after 5 years and did a damn fine job keeping a closed lid this whole time and I can’t wait for it to pay off. So ya, I stand by my point that studios have been quiet for too long.

If the small scale titles were all that those studios were working on I’d agree, but we both know that’s not the case. I mean they literally said they set aside 10-20 people for these smaller titles.

It is fine to try to differentiate yourself and find market, but the problem they had was forgetting their core. Luckly they have enough money to tank a year or two of bad results while they shape up;
