Well if you gonna invoke the “proud Japanese” theme then it works both ways. Maybe it’s a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” route, long memories of Sony kicking them out of the console business.

Seriously though, if true it’s more of a partnership with some kind of guaranteed revenue for both parties. And besides, even if Sega isn’t as big a name in Japan as in the 90s, it’s still better then “Xbox” in Japan. Progress is progress

And you got all this from some fan nonsense? Okay. Wake me up when they announce a SEGA streaming service.

We just speculating based on a rumor. Perspectives work both ways

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

The MS thing cant be it. It just does not align with info about said announcement.

The guy interviewed SEGA's own tech specialist and executives; He claims that whatever he interviewed SEGA about was revolutionary. We know XBX tech specs, nothing about it would be considered revolutionary, plus why would he interview SEGA about that anyway?

Technically Sega getting back in the console business, even under MSs backing, would fit the label.

Well sell out, was I meant to say. Its still doesn't make sense, at all.

I digress. Wait a few days.. this is one of those stupid rumours.

I'd agree its just a rumor, I say definitely not true.

However, the idea itself makes sense and calling it selling out suggests you just hate the idea of them working together.

Sega consoles sold better in Japan and Sega no longer makes consoles. If the two are open to doing a partnership, that would be fine.

What, okay. I'll bite.

Sega hasn't made a successful console since the Megadrive? You think they will announce a new console ahead of the PS stream in collaboration with US company. Sounds like a fanboys wet dream.

Besides the Xbox Series X website is up for Japan, check it out.

You have said absolutely nothing.

No it does fit the label because it does answer the questions that I just asked.

* Why would SEGA announce they are taking care of XBX in Japan for MS on THEIR 60th anniversary? What does that do for them? That is like your mom/wife telling you her major BD surprise is she is taking your friend out.

* Again; They interview was conducted with SEGA's own executives and tech specialist - Why he interview SEGA about a product that they have no hand in? Why is he interviewing SEGA about Hardware announced and detailed 6 months ago? Even if SEGA is taking care of it in Japan... its still the same console! Why is he calling it revolutionary? There is nothing revolutionary about letting a domestic business handle your foreign product.

These have to be answered first before MS thing can be true.

So a website is meant to be the final nail in the coffin?

Reason we're even entertaining this discussion is because the Xbox presence in Japan is so non-existent. I doubt the two people who actually frequent that website, will be bothered if they end up with a machine labeled 'Sega' instead.

Go to Japan and walk into any Hard Off store and you will see walls and walls of Saturn games and consoles right now. Mega Drives and SMS. DC as well. Saturn was big in Japan. Sold better than N64.

And the N64 is one of the lowest selling Nintendo systems ever.

Sega could never sell 10M consoles like the PC Engine did there.

Average sales of Sega system there is around 3M, meanwhile Nintendo has a 15M average and Sony a 14M average.

Sega name is big as far as arcades go, they are still everyhwhere there, but regarding consoles Sega brand is pretty okish at best there.

What the Master System sold here in Brazil the Saturn didn't reach there in Japan, and Japan sells like 10x more consoles than Brazil.

This is about Japan and Saturn was a big deal in Japan. Oh and Genesis sold over 30 million. However they stopped counting by the time Genny 3 came out so the final number is unkown,

How do we know this partnership hasn't been in the making for years, with Sega and Microsoft collaborating to design the Xbox Series X? It's unlikely, but not impossible.

Another possibility is that Sega is releasing that eye tracking peripheral they have been working on as an Xbox accessory, as part of this partnership.

1. Because it lacks any Japanese flavor. XBX is totally, without a question, a western created console. We would see that SEGA style (or Japanese in general). Again though... it does not answer any of my questions, specifically the second the. Whatever it is, It developed by SEGA. Its is waaay more plausible and sensible that MS would and SHOULD have announce it at THEIR reveal. That would have been an explosive announcement.

2. Cant imagine SEGA would create revolutionary tech .... and then tie it to XBOX. If its as big as they say it is I'm sure its designed to benefit SEGA... not MS.

Saturn outsold 3 different Nintendo consoles in Japan, N64, Gamecube, and Wii U. That's not too shabby for a console that was only on the market for 4 years before it's successor released. Saturn was actually tracking ahead of PS1 in Japan in 1994, 1995, and 1996, it wasn't until FF7 released on PS1 in 1997 that PS1 managed to pass Saturn. If Square had chosen Saturn instead of PS1 for FF7 after they failed to get FF7 to work on N64, history would have been very different.

Sega's name is alot bigger in Japan than Xbox is, and that is all that matters. Xbox 360 is the bestselling Xbox console in Japan and it sold 1.6m in 7 years. Saturn sold 5.8m in 4 years, nearly 4x as much in less time.

Be careful:  You are comparing two very different Japanese markets... and two very different SEGA's. Consider that in your argument.

Sega could get a cut of each console sale and other agreements and will have control of the branding and marketing. Who knows. But what I do know is that for a speculation rumor....you have a little bit of salt in your words.

Let’s get down to brass tax....why you so opposed to a rumor? I mean I know. I just want you to say it. Don’t like the idea of your precious Sega partnering up with big bad MS?

Still does not answer that question. Salt in my wounds ... from what? Another dumb argument.. possibly.
