1.) it's just a tech demo.  It's not really something that requires much story writing.

2.) Maybe the blue light does something.  Maybe it turns bluer when she gets closer to her destination.  Maybe it turns red when she's going the wrong way.  Maybe it's red when there's monsters nearby.

There's a huge number of possibilities, it's probably none of them, but it's seriously nothing to get irked about.

Perchance it does do something besides illumination but I see her use it for illumination during the rest of the demo and nothing else.

Whatever, Unreal's gotta sell their engine somehow...

If a tech demo does this to you, then what game has not bothered you? You must be close to a heart attack every time you play most games.

The fact that this is a tech demo is partially why this irks me so. I think it's safe to say that Unreal wants to sell their engine and thus the writing can come off as transparent when it shows actions and lighting during moments the writing may not call for it.

If I saw this in the middle of a game during regular play, I'd just think it odd and move on.

Wtf, are you for real? This is not a game, it's a tech demo to show off relatable moments in games and how they could look like in UE5. It's not supposed to have any writing or any story consistence.

Hint, there's really nothing happening after the character reaches that final teleport thingy and the end...

Can't believe this had to be spelled out.

Amazing!
I prefer 1440p, or even 1080 with these visuals than any 4k with simpler visuals.
Thats im talking about. Real improvements instead of just pixel count

If only they showed some amount of vegetation, like jungle or forest.

Just wait. ;)

You say that because you revealed a lot of good vegetation.

It will be the same, because this playable tech are optimize using SSD's that only possible on PS5 , of course it will work on Xbox series X or even mobile phones and HDD . But there will be some sacrifice on streaming the assets, when combined with RT it will be alot heavy . So expect the same resolution and frame rates on Xbox series X , 1,7 teraflop differences won't matter much.

are you the true legacy of ethomaz? even a 7% difference in pixelcount would have been enough to cry tears over

First part of that is unnecessary.  Address the arguments, not the person making them.

THANK YOU!

I´ve always thought that RT is a monumental waste of resources.

Remasters. Instead of rebuilding engines and games from scratch in a new engine... Take that old game/engine and enhance them using Ray Tracing! Then sell the games at the same price as a new title.

100% Agreed.

My first picks would be Quake III, Jedi Outcast, Chronicles of Riddick, Metroid Prime, Zelda TP and RE4.

It isn't, not when implemented efficiently. One thing this demo lacks is a need for considerable reflective sources (an area that where rayracing truly shines), and if this demo used realtime raytracing, it would look considerably better (ala, Metro: Exodus). Yes, it looks fabulous as is, but with proper implementation, that image would jump tenfold.

Full RT puts a serious stress on the gpu doing all the ray thingies. UE5 already puts a serious stress on the gpu in this demo. If that same demo were done with full RT, it would seriously tank framerates. I think a lot of people will be pissed once games come out with full RT, but with serious performance problems. Cerny hinted at this in his talk when he came to the different levels of RT on one of his slides.

Getting clues from a tech forum, the UE5 demo also runs on the XSX, but with reduced details due to the advantage of the PS5's ssd solution (and no, the reason is NOT that the ssd is faster, it's about all the hardware "behind" the ssd which does the real work. We still don't know anything about the hardware behind the XSX's ssd, but this demo might be a small glimpse that it is not be as thoroughly implemented).

One thing I'd be interested to know is how much disk space this demo used. A ton of streaming was involved.

Windows Central tweeted that the demo could also be run on xbox, but now deleted it.

but hey, it's just some fansite at the end of the day

Wow Mr Sweeney actually said it came down to streaming assets from the SSD.

Now this is just a tech demo, and you could lower the quality of some assets, or the amount needed to be loaded, and get it running on a pc or xsx.
However thats just crazy to me, a SSD could actually hold something back, and require "downscaleing" to get it running on other things.

Disappointing, I was already expecting great graphics, but coming from ps4 pro and xbox X, I was hoping for new gaming mechanics. I don't see any big difference from this to uncharted 4, looks like a corridor exploration adventure game, even has the same climbing and between rocks squeeze.

Sure great graphics and fast loadings, nothing game changing for me.
