Forums - Nintendo - What to expect for Switch in the second half of the year?

Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Shin Megami Tensei V is really weird for a "low expectations" predictions. That is pretty much the release of every vaporware dream game that has been announced (or in Trilogy's case, heavily rumored) since the Switch came out. I could see one, maybe even two of those. Three in the same year? Eh.

Although, I can't come up with anything definitive either, obviously. I would say Mario ports, and a new Paper Mario are likely. Beyond that I'm not sure. I think Bayonetta 3 is somewhat likely as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was next year either.

I think there are going to be very few physical release games during the summer.  Even games that might technically be finished can get pushed back just so the holiday season doesn't seem barren.  For Summer I could see an indies showcase and updates/dlc for games like Smash and Animal Crossing.  Then late Summer/Early Fall we get our only full Nintendo Direct for the year.  It will be decent but not terribly impressive and include plenty of ports for both first and third party games.

It's a "low expectation" for me because at this point I don't think we will get many new games this year from Nintendo and also third-parties. Also, I'm confident games like Zelda BOTW 2 and Metroid Prime 4 are planned for next year. So, apart from maybe Bayonetta 3 and SMTV (both already announced in 2017) that are new games, I think we will only see several ports and collections, although of highly anticipated great games.

I’d actually probably would too. Switch needed a big 3D Mario in the 64/Sunshine/Galaxy series and Odyssey delivered, but I liked 3D World a lot. Wouldn’t mind if that became a third pillar of Mario platforming series. I was even more impressed with 3D Land considering it was on 3DS, but obviously World is the game to follow on console. I hope there will be a second one, it’s a perfect ‘filler’.

Its odd because Playsation Games didnt get too heavily delayed because of Coronavirus, Xbox and PS5 havent been delayed, and yet nintendo have nothing........so far. Like what have they been doing. Wheres Retros game 6 years later still missing

I actually enjoyed 3D World more than Odyssey. I found the fact of having actual levels with a beginning and an end to be a more appealing experience than roaming big worlds while looking for the 567th moon. Also, 3D World music was absolutely amazing while Odyssey's was in my opinion... A tad too generic for the most part (it still had some great themes though).

But yes, the Switch needed a big Mario game and they totally delivered on that front. But now that we already got that... 3D World 2 would make me super happy ^^

Not much. Breath of the Wild 2 was probably intended to release in November or December. But now with COVID-19 (and even Nintendo's notorious delays anyway), I don't think it will release until March 2021. Maybe we'll even have to wait until Summer 2021, but I doubt it.
The most we can expect are the rumored Mario remasters, a Mario spin-off (Golf or Party), a Wii U port or two, and maybe some smaller-scale IP.
I really thought this was going to be the best year for the Switch, but nothing has topped 2017 yet. And mind you 2017 didn't even include January or February and also had some obvious flaws.
2017 was a big year for the Switch, 2018 was more of a lull, 2019 ramped up more, and 2020 seems to be the most barren in terms of software and hardware shortages. I just hope Switch can give a year as good or better than 2017 before it gets replaced. It seems like 2020 will be a year full of ports and remakes for the Switch.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I expect one barely-out-the-door-on-time holiday release. Not a remake, but a whole new game. But also a game that will be a lot shorter than planned. Kind of like how Windwaker was cut short due to development times.
