Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony To Provide Up To $10 Million To Struggling Indie Studios

From the same "Play At Home Initiative" blog post:

Creative Funding

Independent developers are vital to the heart and soul of the gaming community and we understand the hardships and financial struggles that many smaller gaming studios are facing. With that, SIE has developed a fund to support them during this time. We have earmarked $10 million to support our independent development partners. More information about the fund, including participation criteria, will be made available soon.

During these days of physical distancing, fans have turned to gaming for moments of respite and enjoyment. At Sony Interactive Entertainment, we are privileged to bring this much-needed entertainment. We know this is just one small step and we are thankful to be able to offer this support to our players, our communities, and our partners.

Pretty awesome of Sony!

Condition: Your games now have to be playstation exclusive.

I dont see an obvious reason why Indies would be struggling relative to other more hard hit industries. If anything, people stay at home and play more games and can purchase them digitally.

All-in-all good to see Sony action into a good cause no matter the dynamics in play.

This is just a PR play. Gaming has benefited from the virus fallout. So, this would have made more sense, from an actual help perspective, before the virus had everyone parked in from of their consoles and PCs all day.

People are going to lose their jobs, this is going to be the worst economic crisis since 29'.So people in general will start saving money, and gaming is not an essecial product. It may not hit them now, but it will soon enough.

Plus that, indies have to pay bills, and these past 4 weeks and the next 4 weeks will basically be thrown to waste, because little work, if any, will be done. That's why.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Thank you!

Can't wait for the "participation criteria".

Why would indie studios work even a second less in these days?

And even if, do you think indie devs are being paid by the hour?
