You could replace Ubisoft with "any" and it remains accurate. |
Technically not any publisher. Nintendo basically never price drops their 1st/2nd party games. A few will get temporary sales from $60 down to $40-50, but I've yet to see any 1st/2nd party Switch exclusive selling for less than $40, even the ones that released in 2017. Nintendo used to price drop older games permanently on what they called the Nintendo Selects program, but Nintendo has yet to revive Nintendo Selects this generation. It sucks, there are several Switch exclusives I would like to buy, such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Fire Emblem Three Houses, but there is just no way that I'm buying them at their current prices. |
I don't really mind Nintendo keeping their games at full price it means that I can buy knowing they retain that value with the initial investment been higher but good return on reselling them. I just recently sold 23 Switch games and they averaged out to £30.80 per game and I only paid between £30-40 for each of them which isn't bad to say they have been sat gathering dust for years on my shelf and when compared to every other console library I own I'd be lucky to average £5 per game after that amount of time.
There is definitely good arguments for both the always full price and and fast dropping price methods publishers use but for me whilst physical is still a thing I'm generally more inclined to purchase a Nintendo game day one than others because I know I can spend £40 and sell it for £30-35 3-4 weeks later and buy another game with the money where as other publishers I usually wait for a sale 1-2 years down the line and grab it from the £10 bargain bin although Gamepass has made that pretty irrelevant now by offering new games day one as an affordable subscription.
