I dont know why people expect MS to move on from Gears. Yeah the games aren't as big as they used to be but it's still a massive franchise. Gears 5 was one of the games that helped game pass subs grow by more than 2x. Also Gears 5 is the only game that's been able to make it to the #1 most played game besides Fortnite in the last few years.

I just want them to move on and either soft or hard reboot it because I'm burnt out.

If it helps gamepass, great. I'm just looking at it from my perspective.

This is some great news Rod being gone! I was pretty excited when he joined TC but it soon became evident he's not there to make a Gears game fans want.

You guys don't seem to be aware how much damage Gears 5 is doing to the franchise. It tanked on most played games lists very soon after launch, it's still badly broken and TC seem to be unable to fix it, support is mostly new useless microtransactions and they struggle to ship new content etc.. There's only negativity around it. Apart from this thread that is :D

Rod didn't help with is Twitter comments either.

Maybe someone else will get Gears back on track. But honestly I think it's best to make remake collection of original trilogy and end the franchise.

With Rod leaving, I hope MS will be convinced to end Gears with 6. The franchise was on decline after original trilogy and I personally can’t see it returning to be as huge as it was back in 360 days. Modern gamers are just not seem to be interested in the Gears formula. Of course they can make some big changes in terms of gameplay, but it will probably result in Gears not being Gears anymore. As for The Coalition, it’s a good opportunity to work on a new IP, Working on Gears forever will get them nowhere as a studio, so once again, it’s a good thing for them with Rod leaving probably. As for Rod, shitty choice. Can’t understand his decision. Probably the worst possible choice out of all game developer companies.

I had a similar thought when I saw the news of Rod leaving. Hopefully, this means Coalition moves beyond just doing Gears games and I definitely think series fatigue is setting in for a lot of people. While Gears 4 and 5 were good games, I'm still of the mindset the series should have finished after 3. Anyway, I hope after Gears 6, The Coalition will maybe start working on a new IP.

I don’t think the Gears 5 situation is that bad, is it? The game has an 8.4/10 user score on Metacritic, which is pretty high considering that console war fanboys always give bad user reviews to opposing console exclusives on Metacritic. User score on Xbox Store, where you have to own a copy to vote, is 4.7/5

Metacritic user score is good indeed, but it's mostly for campaign and PlayStation fans didn't even bother trolling.

Xbox Store is another story however. It was actually around 2/5 with loads of negative reviews until November. Somebody deleted negative reviews and they don't count anymore. One of the developers aknowledged this on Gears forums and said TC is not responsible. But there's damage control for sure and It's shady.

Situation is bad and the game is in bad shape. I don't agree with those saying it's the series fatigue. There's simply so much wrong with the game, it's economy and support. It doesn't feel like a Gears game and fans are upset. It's a generic shooter designed to attract Fortnite crowd and lure people into mtx.

They should've made a true Gears of War game, or change the formula with unique ideas. Throwing half-baked stuff and mechanics from other games doesn't make a better game. Or even a good game.

I agree with you they should start making a new IP for now.

I would counter that Gears 5 was a fantastic return to form, and struck a great balance between adopting improved modern gameplay whilst staying Gears.

That said, I am going to agree with you. Give us an epic finish, then take a half decade off to develop new IP before rebooting.

Gears 5 was better indeed than 4. At least in terms of campaign as I didn’t bother with multiplayer part at all so can’t compare. But still, if gears 4 was a bad game in my opinion, gears 5 was just somewhat decent, nothing outstanding that justifies it being Xbox flagship franchise after halo. I’ve never played original trilogy though so maybe gears is just not my cup of tea.

I can make a bet that gears 6 will continue the decline. MS has been pretty shady about gears 5 so we can’t know for sure if it performed better than 4 or not. We know though that launch sales were lower but still hard to say if it is just because of GamePass affecting sales of people just being tired of franchise.

Oh yes, they didn't have any plan and he bought this evening a house in Irvine. Cmon.

Simply Ybarra decided that there was only one man able to fix Diablo 4

No, Gears 6 AFAIK wont finish Kait's story arch. It was planned but something things change.

Simply while writing it, Gears 5 grew bigger and Microsoft agreed in splitting it into two separate games. So Gears 6 will only finish 66% of the OG trilogy. The example he used was Game of Thrones, which was planned as a trilogy of books then the first book turned out to be three different books, each with 1000+ pages.

The Perfect Dark thing was a joke made on me, they loose interest in the pitch because it's not a pitch anymore.

To stop Gears 6 the studio must be hit by an earthquake (I thing I hope won't happen to Vancouver) but it's still far because they are also working on separate projects both Gears and non Gears related, both in house and external. Obviously Rod green-lighted all of this.

He spent 15 years of his life on this series, with only a brief exception to save Bioshock Infinite, he wouldn't leave the studio in a bad shape.

Yeah The Coalition will be fine but what does that mean about Perfect Dark? It's not a pitch anymore? It's been greenlit?

If it turns out that they are working on both then that would be massive.

To be fair that’s what the 3 year gaps are for, so it doesn’t become like COD. I’d like them to finish the trilogy but they certainly need work on their online, especially how they price micros

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

With Game Pass we can’t just look at upfront purchases anymore. I myself only played it through GP where as I always bought the others.

It’s out the box thinking sure compared to Nintendo and Sony, but it’s simply a low barrier entry into games, that if people stick to enough, end up giving MS more revenue then a flat $60 purchase.

They got greedy with the micro prices. Something they can luckily fix for the next game

Then again, they got greedy with Gears 4 50€ "season pass" with little to no actual value. And then managed to ship 4 new maps. Yes,  four new maps, rest were remakes of old maps and even reskins of Gears 4 maps. And of course they had rng packs.. something they could've fixed but..

Well, at least now that Rod's gone there's still hope. Cliffy seems to be eager to return :P he doesn't seem to be a fan of what TC has done.
