The Xbox Lockhart SAD mockup looks soooo cute:
If true, I would be tempted to buy one additionally to a Series X.

Lockhart will probably be bigger than that. Even though its 4tf a lot of the internals are similar to the PS5 and Series X.

I'm playing on default difficulty, makes me nervous enough. Thanks, explosives took down a plague heart quickly enough. I almost messed up though, it's difficult to accurately throw stuff with these controls. Especially with Zed jumping on you, nearly blew up my leader with a frag granade. Infestation control is a good one to remember. Do you recommend to take down all plague hearts as quickly as possible or work on moving to a bigger base first? Those need minimum of 8 survivors, I only got 5 so far. |
Just take care of the plague hearts near your base and the places you visit the most. The others can wait. Some of them are at the very edge of the maps and won't pose an immediate danger. So you can work on building your community before you take them all out.

On a more serious note though, I don't think that Lockhart can fit in a cube shape, at least with 2 of the 3 dimensions staying the same size as Series X. If you look at the actual internals of the Series X, there is very little wasted space, you'd have to shrink the motherboard to make it shorter in vertical mode, and I'm not sure how much the motherboard can be shrunk: Maybe they could make a cube shape work, but they would probably have to make it larger on the other 2 dimensions to compensate for the shorter 3rd dimension. It would require a total redesign, built from the ground up with it's own unique internals, a shorter motherboard assembly and a smaller heatsink (which should be possible since the Lockhart chipset will produce probably at least 70 watts less power than the Series X chipset, if it is 4 tflop vs 12 tflop). I think it is more likely that Lockhart is a traditional flat console like Xbox One S and Xbox One X, probably around the same size as Xbox One X. I think a cube shape with a vent at the top would be better though, so there is a cohesive design language between the 2 Xbox Series consoles. |
I see plenty of cooling and heatsinks. Makes me think they could shrink it if the APU is weaker and involves very low amounts of heating elements and several heat pipes. Also, decent solder, not the shit that melted at 84C.
Seems like everyone agrees that 2 billion isn't an issue for MS but rather the large number of studios and employees.
So, Wouldn't be possible for MS to say "Here's your 2 billion but i only want 2-3 studios (Netherealm, Rocksteady, Monolith)". Wouldn't that be a good deal for WB? They take the momey they asked for and can potentially make more by selling the rest of the studios and publishing division to someone else.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I mean, if AT&T are asking for $2bn for all 10 studios and Microsoft gives them $2bn for 3 studios, I'm sure they'd be okay with that. Don't think Microsoft would be that generous though. I do think the mobile studios could be sold easily to someone like Netease providing they come with licenses, which they likely would as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are open licenses, Amazon is currently working on a LOTR MMO. |
its not that simple, generally its the whole package seeing as the goose with the golden eggs usually supports the whole forest

If we go by an assumption that Series S motherboard is the same as Series X, then a traditional flat console form factor is impossible. Because Series X use very unique split motherboard design which means that it actually has two motherboards. This won't fit in a traditional console form factor. Which brings us to the conclusion that either Series S motherboard is different - which brings two options (shrink both parts and fit into cube/make singular motherboard and fit into flat console), or that Series S is pretty much identical to Series X in terms of console size.

That's exactly what Jez Corden of WindowsCentral is talking about. Microsoft is not interested in this deal for two reasons - it all comes with lots of new employees which is a pain in the ass to handle and that it unlike Minecraft doesn't have any huge benefits. Minecraft was bought because MS acquired all the rights to it's brand. Revenue from merchandise and other stuff is a good annual income for Microsoft. WB doesn't have any of this. If MS would wanna do a Batman game they would need to license it from AT&T again and pay for it. These studios don't have big franchises attached to them so it's not really gonna worth it.

Yeah, i don't think it's gonna happen but if MS really wanted some of those studios this could be an option.
Cash doesn't mean much to MS. All they care about now are their services and those studios and ip's could be huge for gamepass.
