Ryuu96 said: With FF7R Part 2 being launch exclusive to PS5 and FF7R still not being on Xbox, I would not be surprised if the Sony/Square deal was Sony getting exclusivity to FF7R and FFXVI indefinitely, could have been signed years ago when Square thought Xbox would be as dead as Xbox One again. I don't think it'll ever come to Xbox but we'll see years down the line. But I'll say if it does come then why would anyone care, Square will act surprised it bombs but c'mon, releasing Part 1 of a remake years after its release everywhere else only to make them wait years for Part 2 after everyone else again, Xbox fans will end up finishing FF7 like 9 years after everyone else in total |
It's quite interesting that you bring up what I highlighted in bold, because I suspect this indeed might be the main reason this deal. Square Enix badly evaluated how things will be with next gen consoles and decided to take Sony's money hoping that PS5 will indeed dominate this gen even more. It's a mistake on their side obviously, but I'm not sure we should blame them that much for that. IMO, Xbox didn't really change their strategy with Series X that much compared to what they did with Xbox One X, and Xbox One X didn't really work. So, it was okay for Square to think that the same strategy with Series X won't work either and Xbox will lose even more marketshare. The surprise for Square is that the same thing somehow worked this time and the image of Xbox brand took a significant turn to being praised by many in the gaming community.
As for the games themselves, I don't think there is a need to panic about FFXVI. This game will definitely come to Xbox at some point, be it 1 year or 2. Not sure what the deal is, but it will come for sure. As for FF7R, it's a different story. Sony plays on nostalgia feelings here and how the original game has always been associated with Playstation brand. I would say, that FF7R probably never coming to Xbox at this point or at least it's not coming this gen. Maybe, we'll be able to play it on Xbox when Square will release a three-game remaster collection in one package on PS6 and Series X2.
@shikamaru317 as for 2m claim, you need to keep in mind that FFXV sold 2m when it launched the same day as PS version. FF7R has hardly any potential to reach that numbers after 2 years and what makes things worse, is that the longer it stays PS console exclusive, the more it's sales potential will drop. I wouldn't be surprised that Square right now already estimates it as hardly selling a million on Xbox, which makes it a tough decision to port it anyway. Because 1m for AAA game is not a good sale goal
Anyone hear that the Halo Infinite campaign dlc has supposedly JUST started development and shouldn’t expect it till 2024-2025 at the earliest.

Wouldn't surprise me if that was actually true. Lmao.
FH5 savedata sync to cloud gaming is stupidly slow!
While the savegame sync between my PC and my Xbox One X only takes a few seconds, syncing the data to the xcloud system takes ages.
I started the game over an hour ago via Xcloud, but the savedata sync (between two Microsoft servers) is only at 13% so far.
I just wanted to quickly check my car auctions with my laptop without a full game install!
The only thing infinite about Halo these days is the second chances 343 gets after continually dropping the ball.

Didn't they trademark Halo Infinite: The Endless a few months back? I thought this was one of their co-developed projects that's been ongoing. |
I'm hoping that's the case, but the trademark doesn't mean too much in terms of a game releasing. Starfield was first trademarked almost 10 years ago. Not that it'll take long that for The Endless to release lol but it's not a guarantee that it means a release is imminent.
Here's to hoping that Ryuu's statement is more accurate than Sean W's!

It's pretty amazing to me that MS is putting up with this. You don't even need to fire everyone. Just disband the studio and spready everyone around to all the other studios you have. I don't understand why MS is so hesitant to just get rid of them.

Wouldn't this result in no one working on the current Gaas Halo MP? |
Yeah that definitely isn't happening. 343's first Drop Pod update happened this past week, and with that, finally shows the GaaS model ACTUALLY happening now since Drop Pod's are monthly updates that will occasionally include actual content rather than just bug fixes and balance updates.
And with campaign co-op along with Forge finally releasing within the next few months, Season 3 truly seems to be the actual "launch" of Infinite MP. Development of Infinite was a complete mess, but since Joe Staten took over, he's been doing a good job of turning that ship around. I don't even wanna know what the state of the game would look like now if Staten was handed the reigns.
