I thought MachineGames only used ID Tech for their games?

He says it's just personal work.
But Tango has moved to Unreal Engine despite previously having their own internal engine, I don't think it's out of the question that we'll see more studios move towards Unreal Engine.
I do wonder how the reportedly lack of manpower will affect studios with their own internal engines too, I'm seeing a lot of talk lately from those in the industry that there's a lot of jobs but not enough workforce and a lack of talent, having your own internal engine does make things more difficult when it comes to hiring and then getting workers up to speed with your engine, we've seen CDPR make that decision to ditch their engine in favour of Unreal Engine.
I think where it makes sense we're going to see more studios switch to Unreal Engine.

That's a damn shame too because id Tech for decades has been one of the absolute best gaming engines out there! In the late 90s into the 2000s, all you ever heard was id Tech and Unreal Engine. Mainly due to the rivalry between Quake and Unreal Tournament. Of course, nowadays there's no way to know how developer friendly id Tech it is compared to Unreal Engine, but when it comes to quality of games that use id Tech, it's insane!
I wonder if it has to do with the engine being not as friendly when it comes to different genres of games? Because so far with id Tech 7, the latest iteration of the engine, the only game that has utilized it is Doom Eternal and it's primarily always been a FPS engine.
Even Phil Spencer in that roundtable with Bethesda was excited about the prospects of utilizing id Tech in other XGS games.
