Gabriel Knight would be perfect IP for action-adventure game. Tim Curry as GB of course.

Nice to see a massive sale on BC games I can grab all the ones I still need for next to nothing and sell on the discs which are kinda pointless DRM checks anyway.

Isn't Activision a publicly traded company? For the longest time I feel like if a publicly traded company was going to be bought out that we would know about it before hand. Was this not the case?

You do know about it beforehand, they've not been bought yet

Wish Microsoft could finish it quickly though...Feel like we're going to end up having the same debates we had with Zenimax for about a year all over again, Lol.

You would get that even if the deal closed tomorrow

Such a hard decision.

Acti made the right choice going with MS for sure. Facebook would have refocused them way too much on VR for pushing Oculus Rift. EA and Acti-Blizz, 2 of the most toxic publishers, merging together, would have created some hellish nightmare entity. Going with Microsoft was definitely the best choice imo, it's beneficial for both Microsoft and Acti-Blizz:

Microsoft Benefits for Acti-Blizz

  • Phil has shown a willingness with Zenimax to not make everything Xbox exclusive, which means they can at the very least keep Warzone multiplat, possibly more
  • Microsoft has a zero tolerance policy for abuse, so if anybody can clean up the toxic elements at Acti-Blizz, it's Microsoft
  • Microsoft had enough cash on hand to buy them straight up with cash, which is exactly the payoff that Bobby Kotick was looking for
  • Microsoft doesn't seem to care about VR, which matches with Acti-Blizz who also doesn't seem to really care about VR

Acti-Blizz Benefits for Microsoft

  • Multiple huge IP's like CoD, Overwatch, Diablo, and Warcraft
  • Multiple AAA development studios
  • 2 more platformer IP's (Crash and Spyro) to go with the 2 that Xbox already owns (Banjo and Conker) as well as 3 development teams within Acti-Blizz who have platformer experience, which can be put in charge of those 4 IP's, filling one of the remaining genre gaps in Xbox's 1st party lineup
  • Blizz games tend to be particularly popular on PC, which is great for expanding the reach of Xbox on PC as well as PC Gamepass subs
  • BattleNet, as well as BethesdaNet, can be merged with the Xbox PC app to hopefully make a single competent storefront for Xbox on PC

I don't know about seeing two more platform IPs as a benefit to be honest. I feel like MS has the IPs but not the teams willing to make the games. Really hope Toys For Bob goes back to what they were doing and maybe they can handle more of MS' sleeper platform IPs. As of now I'm not holding my breathe. What ever happened to Vicarious Visions as well? Hope they are able to make games as well.

We don't need to see more COD or Activision support studios. Hopefully Phil mentions this soon. Really curious to know what his plans are, but I'm guessing since nothing is finalized it will be 2023 until we hear anything.

The amount of IPs MS now has is just insane. Almost every genre is overkill. (There are dozens of IPs that I haven't considered for this list)

Shooter:
Halo, Gears, Call of Duty, Overwatch, Doom, Wolfenstein, Quake, Deathloop

RTS:
Age of Empires (and Mythology), Starcraft, Warcraft, Halo Wars, Rise of ...

Turn Based Strategy:
Wasteland, Gears Tactics

RPG:
Fable, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Avowed, World of Warcraft, The Outer Worlds, Starfield, Pillars of Eternity, Torment, Blue Dragon

Platformers:
Psychonauts, Banjo Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro/Skylanders, Ori

Point and Click Adventure:
King's Quest, Space Quest, whatever Tim Schafer owns

Racing:
Forza Motorsport, Forza Horizon, Project Gotham Racing

Stealth:
Dishonored, Perfect Dark

Action:
Hellblade, Crackdown, ReCore, Diablo, Minecraft Dungeons, Sea of Thieves, Quantum Break

Survival:
Minecraft, Grounded

Misc:
Guitar Hero, Flight Simulator, Battletoads, Killer Instinct, Tony Hawk's, The Evil Within

^^ Missing State of Decay under survival?

Edit: Saw your disclaimer up top. Wonder how MS will manage so much of these, hope we don't see closures.

I went through the official list of MS trademarks and must've missed State of Decay. Definitely a game I would put up there. Either in the Survival category or open a new Horror category together with The Evil Within.

As for the Sierra IPs, I wasn't sure what still belonged to Activision so I included the biggest I'm certain of. Leisure Suit Larry for example was sold.
