I just realized that The Master Chief Collection is one of the Series X|S optimized games that doesn't need to be on Internal to run which is great I can keep it on my 1TB External SSD I use for 360/X1 games and the 130GB MCC takes up is welcome room on the internal.

See you all after the longest week ever!

I think the problem that Gears faces, is that it's MP simply isn't popular enough anymore to justify super long term support. And not, imo, because of any particular changes that TC has made, but simply because, by and large, people are kinda over Gears PvP. I know I, and many of my friends, fall into this category. We still enjoy Gears for the campaign, and we like playing some Horde now and again, but we haven't really been into the competitive MP since Gears 2/3. Mostly 2, really. And it's not that we really think it's gotten worse...I think we just don't really like cover based shooters as the basis of a PvP experience anymore. It's fine for PvE, because obviously enemies will always move out and about, so you get to always be shooting, and the action stays moving at a good pace...but in PvP everything slows down, and you tend to just wish there was more going on. Idk, maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect that this sentiment holds true for a lot of players.

Don't be surprised if TC makes some radical changes to Gears moving forward.

Don't need a Community Manager for Gears if it's on ice for 3-4 more years Tbh, maybe they could have supported the MP for longer but honestly I don't really care, I think Gears is decreasing in popularity and I'm not sure there's anything they can do about it, a long break to freshen it up will be better for the IP I think rather than spitting out a Gears every 2-3 years.

I'm also in favor of a longer break.

I do think they had a chance to make Gears more popular again. Their campaign, while I had plenty of issues with it, was well received I think and brought many new players in. If only they did better with Battle Pass, PvP and PvE stuff.. maybe add a more engaging mode in style of Overrun instead a very tedious Escape?

Even so, after initial struggles it was a top30 most played game for a long time which isn't that bad. They can still hit a homerun with Gears 6. Longer support for Gears 5 could've helped.

King of the Hill style of modes are anything but slow and shouldn't even be considered cover based shooters tho :) you use cover to dance around, noob.

edit. Should've added I've never liked TDM or Execution modes in Gears, mainly because of the slow pace and camping behind cover. So I do agree with you.

Blame MS/343.

- After Gears they only had 35 months to release gears 5 because 2020 would be Halo's year.
- Still they released it in a great state, a lot the MP gameplay dislikes was because of MP professional players.
- Game released with a free battlepass, ton of playlists and new modes like Escape.
- With also a reworked Horde and level system they gave PVE players also fun online.
- Meanwhile they also worked on Gears tactics and later on the U5 Demo and help 343 with Halo Infinite
- While also losing a ton of contractors. They even have no (Gears) community manager anymore

If they could have released in 2020 with the Xbox series launch we would have a better game with hivebusters on release but blaming TC feels unjust.

I can give them credit for helping on other projects and eventually improving the game. 1)But the game didn't release in great state at all. If they had time constraints they should've cut or trimmed some content. Like Escape which was half-baked effort to begin with.

2)Their free battlepass was an insult. Horde was poorly designed mess and alienated plenty of PvE players. Multiplayer they launched was too casualized for Gears community. Taking away skill cap isn't good.

And I very much prefer how 343 and Staten respond to community feedback compared to TC and Rod.

1) A game should release when the devs feel it can go gold not when the publishers say so. Still Hivebusters got delayed.  If the game was in a bad state at release then why do we get basically Digital foundry videos calling the game a masterpiece in how it runs?  And this with Co op and a Forge mode light for escape at release day?

2) How was it an insult? They gave a ton of skins/executions etc away. People love the Ronin General skin as example, except the PVE players who had no use with it disliked it.  Horde/Mp is your opinion but the forums were literally full with people who called Gears 5 ranked modes unfriendly for new players.

And about the last part we don't know yet, TC let you earn on later on all skins with just coins (just playing the game) meanwhile they are still 10 or 20$ on HI store.

Well none of them had long support. GW2 released 2 years after GW. GW 3 released a little more than 2 years later.  Then you had judgement again 2 years later, GOW ultimate edition 2 years later....GW4 a year later and G5 almost 3 years later.  2 years after GW 4's release G5 was announced and we would be at this point being curious about when they would announce the beta and do events in GW4 to unlock some stuff for G5.  Except if you inlclude Tactis/Pop we will now go trough the longest time between Gears game. Also we have so many shooters now. On X360 people would cycle between Cod/Halo/Gears Mp wise.  I still did not try MP games like Valorant/Roque company/Splitgate/BF/COD/Warzone new map etc.
