Take 2 buyout would be a waste imo. The only reason I could see MS wanting to buy them is if Sony is trying to moneyhatt GTA6 like with Starfield. Aside from that, a Take 2 acquisition would only give MS like 3 exclusives per gen if we're excluding spot titles. |
I wouldn't put it past Sony to try and timed hat GTA 6, though that would be extremely expensive for them considering how much GTA 5 sold, as well as the fact that MS had to pay $50m just to get timed exclusivity on GTA 4's 2 DLC expansions, and that was back when GTA was a much less popular series. Sony could probably fund 2 or 3 AAA lifetime exclusives for the price of timed hatting GTA 6 for just 6 months. Take-Two and 2K have more studios that could possibly release Xbox exclusives than you might think: - Rockstar- GTA, Red Dead, Bully, Midnight Club, LA Noire
- Cloud Chamber- Bioshock
- Firaxis- Civilization (not really console friendly, but would be big for PC Gamepass), XCOM
- 31st Union- New AAA IP
- Hangar 13- Mafia
- Intercept Games- Kerbal Space Program
Add to that the fact that MS could potentially let some of their other 1st party studios revive Rockstar IP's that have been dormant for far too long, like Bully, Midnight Club, and LA Noire, since it seems like Rockstar has no interest in continuing them. As well as the fact that 2K's 3 sports franchises, NBA, PGA, and WWE, would be day one gamepass, even if they weren't exclusive. Also 2K publishes Borderlands, so future Borderlands games would likely be day one gamepass. There is definitely alot of value for buying Take-Two for the $17.6b they are currently worth after their recent stock collapse, even if MS had to pay more to close the deal, like $21b, it would still hold alot of value. GTA 6 as an Xbox console exclusive would move like 20m+ Xbox units on it's own over the course of a couple of years, that is how popular GTA is. Those other AAA exclusives like Bioshock and Mafia could help move some Xbox hardware as well. That being said, I personally would much rather see MS acquire Sega. Sega is worth just $3.5b currently, and that includes Sammy, they could split off Sega from Sammy and get Sega alone for even less. In other words, for less than $3b (way cheaper than Take-Two), they would get multiple popular Japanese developers like RGG Studio and Atlus, the new US based Sonic Team, as well as numerous PC focused studios from Sega Europe for pushing PC Gamepass. |
