Will we really care about Sony money-hats if Microsoft ends up buying Warner Bros?

I hate moneyhats, I'd rather Microsoft say away from it and just continue creating their own content, getting more studios, etc. Moneyhats are timed anyway and we'll get them eventually.

If MS does buy them they better do whatever it takes to make the new Batman series exclusive to Xbox/PC to counter Spider-Man. Sony are going overboard with all of these moneyhats.

I keep seeing this lame ass argument, "Well MS did it first in the 360 gen." Doubt MS started the idea of getting games off of another's platform... But more importantly when was the last time they did this? Was it Rise of the Tomb Raider? I haven't seen them do it as much (not counting marketing, or DLC, just full games).

I'm fine as Ryuu said in waiting. I'm waiting for FF 7 to be completed and on Xbox. And I'll wait for 16 if it is timed exclusive. Glad they are investing more into first party for Xbox/PC.

Tbh I strongly doubt any of the licenses would be exclusives, both AT&T and Microsoft need to actually make money from this deal but they'd likely be on Gamepass day one, which would be awesome.

I think the long term goal would be to move most of the studios to owned IP, relying on licensed content is too risky for the Gamepass model, I could see Harry Potter, Lego and Lord of the Rings eventually being ditched but maybe DC staying.

F that, MS should’t buy Studios in a 2 billion deal only to have them benefit 2 other parties even if MS gets a cut. If they can’t get some the IP licenses exclusive then WB should find other studios/publisher to take on those IP and MS should make Avalanche, Monolith, WB Montréal and Rocksteady work on making actual exclusives to benefit the platform.

Ooof just lost everything I was typing but here

• I hated when Microsoft wasted money on timed exclusives and I like their shift

• These games usually benefit the other player base as they try to appease them by adding content and often times a more updated experience that plays better

• Would rather MS invest in actual exclusives/their own studios and IPs

It's a total lie.  Sony literally paid to prevent Nintendo & SEGA ports for any Tomb Raider games until 2000.  Money-hatting has been around since before Microsoft entered the console race.

That’s true I also recall watching a documentary on Nintendo doing similar things trying to get a monopoly. Lol everyone has been “guilty”

I hated it that games like Outer Worlds 2, Wasteland 3, Psychonauts 2 are multiplat. Minecraft I get it it’s at its best when it’s available everywhere. But if WB happens and they stay multiplat it’s like...... why even do this in the first place? Differentiate your brand. Sony loving the money hats MS should play dirty too. Sometimes it’s like they too nice.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Future could be more about how many popular IP's a brand owns and how much reach they have no matter the platform, like streaming services.

Well, like I said I think they'd eventually move the studios over to owned IP but in the short term want to make as much of a return on the investment as possible before moving over so would keep the initial wave of games multiplatform.

You don't want to rely heavily on licenses anyway, especially for a service like Gamepass.

Wasteland 3/Psychonauts 2 were already announced so that's more Microsoft being nice, in WB case I think it'd be more "We just spent a massive amount and need to make our money back"

Outer Worlds can't really be helped, Take-Two own the publishing rights for the first game.

Like I’ll settle for day 1 GP and 6 months timed exclusivity. Nothing stopping them from making their games at least a month timed.

I do find the idea of Microsoft aquiring WB stupid. I'd much rather have 5-6 targeted studios with The caliper of Playground, Insomniac, Obsidian or Ninja theory as I think the total of these studios will cost 50% of the rumored $2 billion.

I have discussed this on this thread and i will mention it again, Sony paid 229 million for Insomniac games who only had Sunset Overdrive as a owned IP, EA purchased Respawn for nearly 500 million (around 455 million). NetherRealm who comes with the MK IP would likely be valued closer to Respawn than Insomniac and I would say the same goes for Rocksteady who have proven to be one of the worlds best devs .Those Two alone would be at a near 1 billion value and the other 4 AAA studios would likely have their price be inflated because WB wants to sell all at once.

MS got lucky with Playground, Obsidian and Ninja Theory, there are not that many private studios out there of that caliber that would want to get bought out. IOI likely has zero interest, Platinum Games has no interest, Techlands PR person already denied an acquisition rumor (I'm praying that this is false and that MS get them), MS doesn't seem to be interest in 4A Games, and Ready at Dawn just got bought out by Facebook (RIP).

I've said it previously in this thread, Respawn is a special case that should not be compared with other studios. The people in Reapawn are the brains behind Call of Duty franchise. They were responsible for the original Modern Warfare and they came to EA with something that had the potential to be COD killer. Even though it launched with no single player campaign, Titanfall did extremely well and was on a great trajectory that might end up with reaching COD level. The second game, which was a masterpiece, was not managed properly from EA unfortunately.

Regarding Insomniac and there price, please give me 5-6 studios of their caliper for $1-$1.2 billion and I would be way happier.

You guys don't realise how crazy expensive $2 billion is for these studios. Especially for Microsoft that is going to through away 60% of what they paid for by keeping it exclusive to Xbox platform.

Note: The smaller 6 studios are just a drag and you'll probably pay more when you lay them off.

August event should not have games reserved for it. The purpose of this event is to announce the specs for Lockheart, show people why it is a worthy updgrade over One X by showing Gears 5 and Forza Horizon, a montage of new games and finally the price.

Show people Ray tracing, extra graphical details, non existence loading screens and other next gen features.

X0 event this year should be a celebration of console launch and nothing more. I don't think they are going to have a physical conference this year. You know what, they should use this excuse to cancel it this year.
