The games you mention have significant appeal in the west. Demon's Souls was relatively new idea at the time, Bloodborne was essentially more of that. I would classify them as action games.

Anyway, this is a wait and see thing. Their significance in Japan has decreased with their exit in the mobile market. They've virtually given up Japan centric games.

I dont really even care, I just have some thoughts. I dont feel we really need to explore this any further.

I'm still quite confused with the  term "Japan centric games" you're using. Persona 5, Last Guardian, Street Fighter 5, several entries in the "souls" series, Final Fantasy VII Remake and also weird titles like Deracine (in cooperation with From Software again).

So yeah, it's normal that a company with such global representation will have titles that have global appeal, beyond the specific region where they are created. I don't see how this in any way bad.

If something, the Japanese market has moved more heavily towards mobile gaming, but that's a cultural shift and not necessarily representative of a lack of appealing games. Apparently when the strategy was one of catering to 2 audiences, things didn't go so well on the handheld space, although I still love my PSP and Vita till this day.

I see Sony as a western focused company. People say theyre global, but a vast majority of their world sales are in the west.

Much of their decisions seem to start with this question, "does the west want this?" And I think thats a logical strategy. But people get annoyed when I say their focus is primarily the west and they've leaned more into that over time. Other regions are more like an after thought but a nice bonus in comparison. That's my view.

The Western label is a bit too broad, if you really think about it, the US and European markets are quite different. Might be the reason why Xbox can't seem to make serious dents in the European market, but it's relatively competitive in the UK and US markets.

Just saying, there's a lot more nuance than your "West vs Japan" labels imply.

I disagree, Europe's best selling games is pretty similar on Playstation and Xbox. MS has also had better success in Europe than it does at the moment. Again, I blame mistakes made early on with X1.

Microsoft shot themselves in the foot multiple times with X1 generation. They were patching a potential sinking ship when Phil Spencer took offer and they start adjusting course when they release Xbox One X at the time the PS4 based was already set it stone there were only minor gain to be made for Xbox. Microsoft will never compare to Sony brand in Japan. But, Europe, Americas & Rest of the world should be competitive.

Because I live in Russia. No Xbox promotion at all. Sony has PS4 banners on central square of Saint Petersburg during holiday season as well as ads on TV. Nintendo has Switch ads in cinemas. Xbox? Nothing.

In Brazil PS sells more than Xbox still I only ever seem ad for Xbox (not that many) but never for PS or Nintendo. Anecdotal evidence doesn't prove anything.

I guess this means that MS really tries and cares about Brazilian market. Not surprising actually, they are doing pretty well there as far as I know.

Yep I would say that both companies have interest in our market (some places say we are like 5th or 6th biggest console market).

I have seem MS putting ads for Xbox several times and for PS I see Sony putting their exclusives for R$200 vs 3rd parties R$250 and Nintendo R$300, and they have kept the same price when USD to R$ ratio gone from 3:1 to 4:1.

During X360 days they sold probably much more than PS3 with the strength of Live for "richer" customers and the modding/piracy for the "poor" customers. PS3 took a very long time to gain traction here. But this gen seems like PS have been a little stronger than Xbox over here.

Yeah, and Sony still seem to have upper hand in LATAM region. I would guess, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina are the only countries where Xbox has any decent presence in that region. I’ve been in Ecuador last year and haven’t seen Xbox consoles being sold at probably the biggest electronics markets. Only PS4 and Switch. If such a big retailers don’t sell them, then I guess nobody else does.

This gen at least in the start I would say X1 dominated on official stores (because it was like X1 R$2500 vs PS4 R$4000) but PS4 dominated in the country due to grey shop R$1800 (X1 wasn't worth to bring at the time because the 100USD more out of Brazil meant that in grey shop it would cost like R$100 less than in stores without warranty so no one would really buy it).

Nowadays their retail price in stores and grey shops are similar so I would say momentum just kept it ahead.

Other LATAM countries I would have to agree with you. Sony is the more global brand anyway among the 3 console makers.
