On paper PS5 specs compared to X is much lower than expected. I guess Sony are confident 4K 60fps with those specs ? with the X it seems Microsoft want to get PC gamers onboard and core Xbox gamers from switching to Sony. Though if PS5 can undercut X price by 100$ I think they do not have to worry.

Why would a PC gamer buy a Series X?

People that want to play OG Xbox and 360 games in 8K. But I am just speculating.

they wouldnt. if thats ms's strategy than its a horrible one.

Do PC gamers generally buy consoles in general? There are parts of the world where many opt for PC over console as well.

People on the internet fake concern about Xbox losing sales to PC. However, I imagine MS is instead focusing on the audience that may not do much if any console gaming.

For example, Halo MCC is becoming a huge is hit on PC likely because many who just game on PC finally have access to it. An audience that wasnt going to buy an Xbox under any circumstance. Hence, more revenue via an audience that may not use consoles.

Why are people buying Halo MCC now? Why didnt they buy a X1 years ago to play it? Maybe because they dont want to use consoles. Maybe?

Of course, to play console exclusive games. If there were no console exclusives, then buying a gaming pc/laptop would be all we need.

If Xbox is 12tf RDNA that is equivalent to 15+tf on GCN. TBH I will be surprised if this is true but these are amazing specs even for 600$ console. Moreover I think they are going to release all their exclusives on gamepass ? Not sure how Microsoft is going to make money but it is great value for consumer. It even looks like mini ATX case.

Liking this PS5 mockup I found.

Let me make it a little more clear.

Most avid PC gamers are not buying a console for exclusives, they just don't want consoles or maybe they live in region where consoles expensive, whatever.

There are many software sales to gain by supporting PC, MS has concluded that's more significant than potential console sales to lose. During the 6th and 7th gen I think there was genuine concern about sharing games with PC, but they must have figured out supporting PC has little if any impact on their console sales.

In fact, Sony shares many of its 3rd party exclusives with PC. Why would they do if it hurts their potential console sales? Maybe the money they save by allowing that isn't impacting their console sales enough if at all.

Ever since MS's PC support and Gamepass stuff began they've boasted about software sales improving and user activity in their games has increased. Unsurprisingly, you can reach more people by supporting PC as well. The people interested in playing MS games is not a finite number of people that actually buy Xbox consoles.

i expect ps5 to retail at $549. The good thing about these leaks is sony will want the upper hand regardless, and will do tweaks if necessary before release.

In response to a query about Shadow Of The Tomb Raider’s sales, Square Enix responded by acknowledging that it “got off to a weak start”. As for why it initially underperformed, Square Enix reckons it wasn’t “novel enough”:

“We think the main reason is that we were unable to provide an experience that was novel enough that players would choose to buy them [Shadow Of The Tomb Raider and Just Cause 4] before any of the other numerous major titles on the competitive landscape.”

Not saying reboots are a bad thing and GOW was pretty amazing, but generally speaking, there comes a time when franchise fatigue becomes a thing. Sony realizes this and that's why they stopped with the Uncharted series for example and moved on, even though it was one of their best selling franchises.

What you posted about Shadow of the Tomb Raider is irrelevant. That was not the reboot, Tomb Raider 2013 was the reboot. SE failed to make the third entry interesting. But the story and characters werent interesting in that trilogy, just fun games.

If Sony felt they could keep making interesting games without Nathan Drake, Uncharted probably would continue.

If Sony was concerned about franchise fatigue then why is there an 7th GoW game? The latest GoW didnt need to be Kratos in norse mythology, it could have been a new IP. It doesent even play like previous games.

Why make a Spiderman game? Thats an old IP. Maybe because old IPs can become something that feels fresh or utilize modern specs for a more ambitious project?

Hence, Fable could return in a big way if they make something really ambitious in that genre.

Well, like I said some reboots do work and GOW is a good example. I think the difference with GOW is that while it's an old franchise, there have been only 3 GOW games since the ps1. It's also about the story and if they can still tell something fresh and interesting, which they managed to pull off with GOW. Compare that to Gears or Halo for example and it's obvious that they are running out of ideas.

Like I said, it always feels like MS is playing catch up and they lack the creativity to really come up with their own franchises. Uncharted was a huge hit for Sony last gen and MS just wanted their own Uncharted like game with Tomb Raider. Now Sony has Horizon Zero dawn and they again try to copy it's success with a new Fable reboot. But hey, who knows. Maybe Fable can pull it off. But I just have a hard time believing it will be huge AAA title that will move a ton of consoles for MS, especially if people will directly compare it to Horizon zero dawn or Skyrim.

They can't figure out something that isn't true. A video game with no exclusives, everything shared with pc will never be a major hardware seller. It may reach a stable number of 20-40 million every gen and be very profitable. Which is totally fine but to say that such a strategy doesn't affect the hardware sales is just wrong.

Not really taking a side in this argument but just wanted to clear up some misinformation.

God of War has had 4 mainline entries since 2005 (near the end of the PS2 era) when the first one came out.

  • God of War (PS2) in 2005
  • God of War 2 (PS2) in 2007
  • God of War 3 (PS3) in 2010
  • God of War (PS4) in 2018

But in addition to that it has had 4 side games.

  • God of War: Betrayal (Mobile) in 2007
  • God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP) in 2008
  • God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP) in 2010
  • God of War: Ascension (PS3) in 2013

And this excludes the numerous re-releases and remasters.
