Switch pounding North America in Dec, wonder if 2 million is a possibility for NPD. Not like we'd know anyway since they're keeping the numbers hostage now.

kazuyamishima said: Wow spectacular numbers for the switch, destroying everything. PS4 should see a nice increase for the next couple of weeks since Sony lowered the price to $249 for the only on slim bundle and some random pro sales. Xbox one... well, what can I say. 3DS is almost dead. |
What does 3DS cost these days? Is it still like $170 or whatever? The thing is dead. They should drop the 2ds, move the New 2ds down to like $90, and the 3ds down to $120. Crazy that the 3DS is barely cheaper than the Switch Lite. Nintendo just really hates cuting prices these days.

They should drop the whole thing, not just the 2DS tbh. Move players on to the far more lucrative Switch ecosystem.
Damn, this is without a notable December game. I'd like to think this isn't the peak year, that it could be next year if Zelda releases, they announce another big gun like 2D Mario or Mario Kart, and finally have a price cut. However with these numbers being so good it makes that harder to imagine.

2DS is $80 and New 2DS XL is $150 each with a $30 game bundled, if that's too much for someone than they have no interest to begin with and I'm pretty sure all the 3D models have been discontinued.
Price isnt the issue, the issue is that it's almost 9 years old, stopped getting noteworthy software a long time ago and everyone who wants one has one.

I think we will see pack in titles before we get a permanent price cut. Lite+Mario Kart & Hybrid+Smash Bros or something along those lines. I think that's a good way to keep sales stable if they start to drop next year and that still leaves them with the option to have their first official discounts during black friday/christmas.
As for big guns next year, I'm thinking Animal Crossing+BotW2+Pokemon DirtyDiamond/PrettyPearl.

You both make a good point. Nintendo does seem to really hate cutting the price (so does Sony for that matter), but Switch really is a much more lucrative ecosystem. You are right they should just drop the 3DS line altogether, but they also need to have a plan to get the Lite model down to $99 at some point, like around the 6-7 year mark.
All of those people who paid $80-$100 for the 2DS slate are never going to buy a Switch for $200 with $60 games. And yet Switch is going to be the cheapest game system once 3DS is discontinued. Nintendo is going to drive the low end customers out of the market unless they eventually get the Lite model down to around $99 with some "Selects" titles around $20-$30. And Switch is a much better system to keep supporting for a long time than the 3DS is.
curl-6 bet me that PS5 + X|S sales would reach 56m before year end 2023 and he was right.

Hitting $99 isn't necessary, it was for the 3DS because sales were mediocre outside of Japan but Switch is a mainstream success everywhere so such drastic price cuts arent needed.
Lite at $149 with a popular game is plenty low enough with the the hybrid model unlikely to ever go under $199.

I just hope Nintendo isn't ultra-stubborn and doesn't keep Switch at $300 until it's replaced. That would cripple its sales potential.
