#43: This RTS game takes place in the galaxy of a famous franchise. It is however, basically just a sprite-swap of another premium RTS game.

Dune II?

Creative guess, but Scoobes has already guessed it not long before you; Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, which was visibly made on the basis of Age of Empires II.

50.  Astro Boy: Omega Factor
guessed by SanAndreasX

Normally games based on established (non-gaming) IP are expected to be terrible, but this beat em up just does everything right.  It gives quite a few interesting attack options while still providing a good challenge.  The visuals are great.  The controls are tight.  This game is just a pleasure from beginning to end.  I guess the key is that the game is made by Treasure and they seem to do a fantastic job regardless of what they are working on.  Perhaps they are huge fans of Astro Boy as well?

49.  Anteater
guessed by SanAndreasX

I recently discovered this game at a local arcade just a few months ago.  This is just simple addictive fun.  Also, the game is whimsical.  Underneath those old school early 80’s graphics is just a simple charm about an anteater eating his fill.  The sound effects add to the whimsical effect.  I also think, since maze games are not really popular anymore, finding this game really scratched an itch that I didn’t know I had.

48.  Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
guessed by Jpcc86

This is another game that I played for the first time this year. Wow, what a treat!  I really love a quality made 2D game and SotN definitely fits the bill.  The graphics still look great even today.  The music is fantastic and really sets the mood for exploring this huge sprawling castle.  This game is so well made, that I think I would have rated it higher if I had originally played it when it first came out.  I never got the full impact of playing this masterpiece in its prime.  One the other hand I have a nice PVM and arcade stick set up right now, which is my preferred way to play 2D games.  I’m currently looking for other great 2D games from the PS1 era, but I think I am setting myself up for disappointment if I expect any of the others to be as good as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

47.  Centipede
guessed by Landale_Star

Several of the games on my list fill a very unique gaming niche, and Centipede definitely falls into this category.  I think the only game like it is Millipede, and Centipede is definitely the superior game.  What makes Centipede such a great game is the fast and furious feeling of the game play.  After a couple of stages pass, you have bugs coming at you from every direction.  But to balance that you have a trackball that can make you travel at amazing speeds.  Of course, if you do this, then you are going to lose precision and probably run into something and die.  This game does a great job of fulling the classic principle “easy to learn, difficult to master”.

Reposting my next 3 games, since nobody even tried...

The next 3 on my list. Wonder if anybody will find out Number 42...

#42: Greetings, Warlord! Let the War begin!
#41: Part RTS, 4X and Space Colony management
#40: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH Yourself! Uh Oh...

No, another good try. The reason I mention musketman, is because if you get hit by a volley of them you will be hurting, later games in the series nerfed ranged attack damage.

Ok, well the only thing that comes to mind is Samurai Warriors then.

Correct!

This year I will post 1 hint and leave it up for 24 hours. After 24 hours I will reveal.

#50- Commit genocide against various animals, now in HD!
#49- An impossible to beat game, as the goal is your own. You can start as lowly baron or be an emperor, either way eventually you can certainly see the fruits of your labors.
#48- 10-15 people are introduced from an insane asylum, you must destroy your enemies to further learn about each individual.
#47- Unlike the previous games, this new game series from the same developers was set in Japan and featured deadly musketmen.
#46- The gist of this game is to build better castles than your enemies, because once you had a good economy and castle going, you can easily fend off any attack and build up for a devastating attack yourself.
#45- The first game I played on XBL, it featured online battles in urban settings, and one fun thing to do would be to destroy a building next to an enemy and the building would kill your enemy. Unlike the Halo series it did not receive many sequels.

Now for the reveal.

50- Monster Hunter World

A great addition to the franchise, and the first to make my top 50 list. Slaughtering monsters was just straight up fun, I didn't realize until halfway through killing most of the monsters with my friend that I could just straight up make anything that I wanted. The Switchaxe was not a very good weapon but it was the most satisfying for me pulling off flashy combos and explosions.

49- Crusader Kings 2

I have been playing this game for years now, and only now have decided to add it to my list. After the 100 hour learning curve, I really started to enjoy this game. But after 300 hours, I wanted to start game after game to make a new powerful country.

48- Twisted Metal Black

A vehicle destruction game, but this one was insane. The start with "Paint it Black" by Rolling Stones sets the theme, and as you unravel each person's story while enjoying the gameplay, it ended up being a very atmospheric game.

47- Samurai Warriors

There were minor changes to this new Warriors series, but the new setting made for another enjoyable historical game. However like Dynasty Warriors 3 it had the perfect balance. As a lower level dude, you couldn't simply just walk into a volley of musketfire like in future games. You had to have some semblance of strategy going about the battlefield and with all the things you did in each level, you gained more experience. Starting with some of my favorite characters ended up with me seeking the tombs/ temples of these historical people in real life Japan.

46- Stronghold Crusader

The Stronghold series never could hold a candle to the Crusader spin off in my view, this game had great balance and if you were an expert you could easily plow through the desert trail. Still in the early days when I didn't know what to do it was fun to make all the peasants into lumberjacks and they could take on a few of their average soldiers.

45- Mechassault

One of the many gems of the OG Xbox. The first game I played on XBL, I got team killed. My uncle took the controller and killed the guy over and over and cussed him out, good times. This game and Halo 2 pretty much renewed everyone's interest in online multiplayer for console. It was fun to destroy a building using stealth and light weapons and have it collapse on the big hulking mechs when you were just a small fry. It was also fun being a hulking mech and destroying other meches in a volley of weapon fire. The story wasn't too bad either. It's too bad this series did not continue as a quality MS exclusive after the 360 released.

44- You can Light fry, Nuke, Zap, disappear from existence, and mind control your enemies. You can even teleport, suicide bomb, or clone in this sequel.

43- I don't think people will guess this, it easily looked up though. The main character is voiced by a hollywood actor that starred in the Wolverine. I think his voice is very similar to Voice actor Robert McCollum.

41. Starcraft 2?

Nope. Again, much older than that game.

As a general rule, most of my games on the list are either pretty old, from Nintendo themselves or Indies.

Signature goes here!

I've missed out a few days now, so I'm gonna drop them all here in one post and try to keep each succinct.

#47 - Pikmin (Wii/GC) [ ↓ 8 ]

The original Pikmin is a triumph of unique vision and brilliant design. Its gameplay is at once frantic yet strategic, and its atmosphere is something so incredibly engrossing that I'd argue it is only rivalled by its sequel. The NPC port to the Wii improved the core gameplay of Pikmin immensely and made it the definitive way to play the games. Pikmin really deserves better than it has gotten. It is a series that needs to release on a successful console at the right time, and be appreciated by a much larger audience.

#46 - Final Fantasy IX (NS) [NEW]

I went into FFIX earlier this year having never played an FF game before in my life. Obviously, as an RPG-focused gamer, this felt wrong. I gave it a go, and though it never quite gripped me as hard as DQ or Pokemon, there is something undeniably charming about the fantastic world FFIX shows to the world. Its music is fantastic, its characters charming, and its content deep. A fantastic RPG.

#45 - Katamari Damacy (NS) [NEW]

I distinctly remember that when I was eight, way back in 2004, Katamari Damacy was the only game I (a lifelong Nintendo purist) was ever jealous of my PS2 owning friends for. Rolling the world up into a ball is such a simple concept, but there's something so therapeutic it. The execution is also just perfect in every single way, its BGM is one of the greatest of all time, its characters incredibly charming, and replayability virtually unlimited.

#44 - Pokemon Conquest (DS) [ ↓ 9 ]

The last great Pokemon spinoff. Conquest is such a simple yet ingenious idea that it's shocking that it was neither attempted earlier nor since. Taking TRPG gameplay, medieval Japan as a setting, and throwing Pokemon into the mix, it was a blaze of creativity that culminated in one of the best games in the franchise. A sequel is very long overdue for this one, and one that fleshed out its gameplay further whilst expanding features would be a super hype announcement.

#43 - Super Paper Mario (Wii) [ ↓ 9 ]

Super Paper Mario gets a lot of shit for being the game that started the 'non-traditional Paper Mario', but these criticisms are entirely undeserved. Whilst SPM lacks the RPG gameplay and heavily Mario-world connected feel of its predecessors, the world and characters it introduces, and the gameplay through which it does so, are all incredible. It is unashamedly different, and it executes everything it sets out to extremely well. If Paper Mario had continued down this path (rather than the mess of its successors) I honestly would have been completely happy. An underappreciated gem of a game.
