Here are my next set of clues:

45  This GBA game was the first sequel to a PS1 game.  The storyline in the GBA game was much more lighthearted than the Game of Thrones style story of the original.

44  It feels like riding in a painting so that you can fight giants.

43  In this game you have to collect 3 keys in order to get the final treasure, kind of like in Ready Player One.

42  This is the first game in a series about just living a normal-ish life.

41  This SNES game returns to the style of the NES original, but it doesn't have "Super" in the title.

I already suspected it's Pokémon, but I'm not sure which one... Red & Blue?

It is a Pokemon game, but a more recent entry in the franchise.

47# Shock Troopers - Saurus - Neo Geo MVS (Arcade) - 1997

Run and gun game that I love to bring a lot of different characters, not to mention you can choose where to start. The game never went out to Neo Geo AES, being restricted to the Arcades in the beginning.

#47 - Garou: Mark of the Wolves - NEO GEO

There is nothing better in fighting games than sprite ones and there is no better company for that than SNK. With the last game we got in the Fatal Fury series in 1999, it doesn't only have some of the best sprites and animations, but they also managed to create one of the greatest fighting games ever.

This entry took a bold direction, most of the playable characters from previous Fatal Fury games are gone, with the exception of our legendary wolf Terry, and still with its new 11 characters and bosses, it manages to create a memorable cast of characters and successors to the likes of Andy and Kim, and of course Rock Howard, son of Geese Howard and raised by Terry, Garou stands as one of the best executed passing the torch like stories with this cast. All with their unique personalities, fighting styles, great sound design and amazing animations to bring them to life.

The battle system is polished as hell too, from perfect guards, your usual commands and the T.O.P system, a simple but fairly strategic mechanic, place your T.O.P in any third of your life bar, when it gets there, you get more strength and can recover some health by doing perfect guards, so you can try to keep yourself from getting hit and have your T.O.P with full health, or keep it as a comeback method by having it on your final third.

Overall, even if is just arcade mode with endings for each character and a fairly fun survival mode, there are few fighting games as fun and satisfying as Mark of the Wolves.

Just wanted to mention that this game is currently on sale on the eShop for $3.99! Thanks for reminding me this exists. I'll be picking it up tonight and playing it sometime after Sword, Wolfenstein, and Slay the Spire.

I knew it from the second hint. "Gee I've been saved by Fox, how swell." - Falco, 1997. That game's one big treasure trove of cliche quotes.

42: Mega Man 3

Correct series, wrong game. Mega Man 3 introduced the slide, but not the Mega Buster.

Ah yes, I knew that, I just always pick the wrong one. It's like always sticking a USB stick in your computer the wrong way around.
