ps3 need more japanese oriented games.
it`s a matter of time.
just like with PSP or PSOne, games like MGS4, WKS, FFXIII, FFFXIIIv, SO4, Naruto, KH3, RE5 and etc will rise PS3 sales.

Call it a cumulative failure, or call it a systematic failure. Many factors are strangling the PS3 in Japan. The lack of backwards compatibility is one of them. So the original poster is marginally correct. The existence of a backwards compatible model in the market would help sales if only marginally. Perhaps it is the final straw for consumers, but we will probably never know.

What we do know is that the PS3 despite all of the improvements of the past year is actually performing worse year to year at this point. This a direct connection of disenchantment of the gaming public with the product. Nothing could or probably would change this at this point or in the future. The console is now effectively shunned, and as we have learned from the 360 once shunned all you see are meager victories.

The majority of consumers generate a perspective on a console, and from that point on it is ingrained in their psyche. Further more most consumers will not purchase a console for one or two games. The overwhelming majority of them are simply not that stupid. Otherwise they would buy all consoles every generation.

You can refer to it as the wonder weapon fallacy. The notion that cumulative screw ups can and will be overlooked at a later date. When you talk about a lack of new games hurting sales. You must also concede that these consumers not buying are also seeing the lack of games.

I don't see why Sony Can't include software BC on the 40Gig, BC with the Sony 1 and $20 Greatest Hits games were the biggest selling points with me when I got a Sony 2. Thats the problem with this gen's HD consoles and why the Wii is dominating, it's got BC with the GameCube and has the VC games. Plus the low hardware cost (I just hope software goes down the same way...).

Casual games? RPGs? Anime games? Puzzlers?

EIther way, SCEJ has been one of the most dissapointing gaming divisions out of the big three.

Japanese have already decided their territory will be Nintendo. Simple as that. Wii has too much of a market share lead for that to change now. FF13 won't even change that.

Its not the lack of b/c, its the games..

it is true that the lack of japanese specific games has also caused the ps3's drop in sales.  if you'll notice, there was a nice spike in hw sales when yakuza was released so it is a viable reason why ps3 hw sales have droped.

 but what's interisting to note is that there is a wealth of ps2 games available that the ps3 could have taken advantage off.  ps1 game liblary + ps2 game liblary + ps3 game liblary = the largest game liblary available for any single console available in the market. 

 even if there is a lack of ps3 games that are specifically targeted at the japanese market, i'm certain that there are ps2 games currently released and being released that would interest the japanese gamer.  and imo, that would be warrant enough to buy a ps3 as they would have games to play (even if its ps2 games) while wating for the ps3 heavy hitters.

hey fanboys PS3 is as dead in japan as it was in NA a few months after launch ehh, remember how bad it, and then what happend.

Looking at PS3s japan library and its empty. NA and Eu get good stuff like Uncharted COD4 Assasins Ratchet Guitar Hero while Japan got f all. Not one really good 1st party game not one really goof 3rd party.

Its not rocket science.

What did FF7 do to PS1 ?

like i said, even if there was a lack of ps3 games that the japanses gamer is interested in, with b/c, the large ps2 liblary would be at their disposal. though, ps2 games are not next gen games, it wouild at least be enough to keep people occupied while waiting for the true ps3 games to come out.

let us take myself as an example, i sold my ps2 2 years ago coz i was in deep shit and i needed the money. i never got to play ffxii, valkerie profile 2, shadow hearts 3 (yes i like shadow hearts), and a lot more, i was also never able to finish shadow fo the colossus. right now, i havent bought a next gen console yet and am looking at buying a ps3 (40gig model) which is my console of choice because of gt5, tekken6 and ffxiii. i still want ot get to play those ps2 games that i missed but the 40gig model has no b/c. the 80 gig model may have bc but its too damn expensive for me. so now, i'm stuck in a rut coz i want a ps3 but i want those ps2 games and i cant affored both systems nor can i afford the high end skus. so i'm thinking of just buying a new ps2 and a wii which, when added together probably cost just as much as a 40gig ps3. and i'd just play the waiting game for the price to drop probably in 2 years or so, or until i find someone who's selling their ps3 cheap.

now if the 40gig model had b/c, it would be a whole different story now wouldnt it.
