Forums - Politics Discussion - Right-Wing Star Andy Ngo Exits Quillette After Damning Video Surfaces

sundin13 said:

Real quick, I want to address the question: If they are white supremacists or white nationalists (or whatever you wish to call them), why are they allied with an Asian man?

I'd say the primary reason is simply "The ends justify the means". If an Asian man helps you achieve your goals, he is an ally right until the point where he isn't. Often, diversity strengthens a voice. It gives them a surface level defense against criticism and to some degree, we see an effect similar to what you see in the "Why I Left the Left" type posts. If you can get a Muslim (or ex-Muslim) to say "Yeah, Muslims are fucked up" than all of the sudden you have a useful weapon to further your anti-Muslim agenda. If you can get a minority to embrace your White Supremacist talking points, you now have a powerful weapon. The demographics of some sparse allies aren't really what is important. What is important is what these individuals are saying and how that contributes to the overall message.

Further, these far right groups don't really have one large shared ideology. There are a lot of smaller beliefs buried within there. Some advocate specifically for a white ethnostate, others speak about the preservation of "Western Culture", others are just anti-immigrant, or anti-certain demographic groups (Middle Eastern, African, Hispanic, etc). Many of these groups have moved away from simply "We hate non-whites" and taken up more PR friendly positions. One of the interesting things about how the internet has changed white supremacy is it has become much more PC (ironically). It has centered much more around putting sugar on racism to make it look less like racism, while still being totally racism to catch those who are just flirting with racism so they can court them on their terms. A lot of this involves convincing people that it isn't about racism. It is about saying "I'm totally not against Muslims or people from the Middle East, I am just against extremists" publicly, but as soon as you are in private, the rhetoric turns into "Fuck all Muslims".

Overall, there are a lot of reasons why White Supremacist and generally far right groups would ally with an Asian man, and a lot of them involve getting you to ask the question "If they are really white supremacists, why are they allied with an Asian man?" so I'm sure they are real happy that question is being asked.

"If an Asian man helps you achieve your goals, he is an ally right until the point where he isn't."

so you think these people may have eventually attacked or killed andy ngo if  he tried to stop their nefarious white supremacist activities?

what about the black guys that were there btw?

what exactly does this group in particular do though? they are white supremacists right? so do we have any information on their activities? their goals? anything like that?

"Often, diversity strengthens a voice."

yes diversity is our strength

"If you can get a minority to embrace your White Supremacist talking points"

can you list some of these talking points espoused by this group in particular?

"There are a lot of smaller beliefs buried within there. Some advocate specifically for a white ethnostate, others speak about the preservation of "Western Culture", others are just anti-immigrant, or anti-certain demographic groups (Middle Eastern, African, Hispanic, etc). "

can you specify the beliefs of this group in particular?

wait wait hang on hang on, wanting to preserve western culture makes you a white supremacist?

" It is about saying "I'm totally not against Muslims or people from the Middle East, I am just against extremists" publicly"

what are your views on atheists who criticise islam like lets say sam harris, for example?

"so I'm sure they are real happy that question is being asked."

of course, white supremacists are crafty little buggers

Don't flatter yourself. You people on the far left aren't any better than the far right ones. In fact, I would argue that most of the time, you are worse, because your side of the political spectrum is far more insidious with their means of attaining their goals. At least the alt-right nutjobs are honest about their intentions and that makes them easy to spot and dismiss.

If the right was honest about their motives nobody would vote for them. They wouldn't have to hide themselves from the law because speaking their motives out loud would be breaking the law. Their hate against minorities and anyone who isn't white is well documented and an open book for anyone who knows how to read. Something their supporters apparently can't.

"Calling the freedom in the US absolute is nothing but absolutely laughable"

good thing that this was not said, but of course some people can't deal in nuance, all they have is absolutes, so the minute someone disagrees with them they have to jump from one absolute to another

the most ironic part of this is that its usually people who claim to b trying to "break down binaries" lol

"How can they have freedom of speech when it infringes on people's freedom to not be killed by right wing maniacs? "

can you give an example of andy ngo or any of the other people in the video expressing incitement for violence?

"I have yet to hear from an antifa extremist to commit mass murder in a nazi concert, or any concert for that matter. Yet mass murder committed by the right seems to flourish."

a sensible way to view the world of course, all of the bad people are in that group over yonder that I disagree with, if we could just deal with them somehow the world would be perfect because my people are good and just

never mind that antifa have communist ideology at their core, an ideology that is responsible for the deaths of millions upon millions of people in the 20th century

"I won't stand for equating deliberately inciting violence against oneself with the mass murder of innocents. And yes, I will always prefer an asshole who wants to be beaten up being beaten up by the people who he wants to be beaten up by over innocents being mowed down indiscriminately."

what does any of this even mean?

"His intent was to be hurt"

evidence?

"can you give an example of andy ngo or any of the other people in the video expressing incitement for violence?"

He's a supporter and friend of hate groups. Why would you single out this video? Is there any doubt in your mind that hate groups are all about violence? Stop willfully ignoring the big picture.

"never mind that antifa have communist ideology at their core, an ideology that is responsible for the deaths of millions upon millions of people in the 20th century"

Talk about talking in absolutes. Also great whataboutism. We don't have to talk about the bad guys because the other guys might be also bad! Anything to distract from the currently discussed problem. I don't support all of the antifa's ideologies and I definitely don't support any kind of violent protest unless it's the last option. We're not at a point yet where violence is the last option. If moderates are not going to protest against extremists it takes other extremists to fight against the steady push of the political spectrum. Why are you even afraid of those "communists"? The US is so far to the right of the political spectrum that they won't even make a dent. Or are you afraid they might succeed in aligning the spectrum to the center?

"what does any of this even mean?"

It means that we shouldn't equate systematic unprovoked mass murder with singular instances of provoked violence.

"evidence?"

Common sense. Look up "propaganda".

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm definitely afraid of Communists. The stats don't lie.. Some fucking insane number like 80 million died at the hands of Stalin and Mao combined. It doesn't get much more destructive than that. So yeah.. There's reason to be concerned.

Not to be hyperbolic and act like Klantifa all = Communists. But they're certainly very very far left and like to resort to violence. So do communists. Tough to NOT equate the two at least in some manner..

And people seem to like to deal in hyperbole these days anyway, so to me it's no more crazy than Proud Boys or hard right conservative people somehow = Nazis..

"He's a supporter and friend of hate groups."

the "hate group" I saw in the video had two black guys, andy a gay asian and women

doesn't that kind of trigger some kind of alarm in you?

so you think this group is going around beating on minorities or talking bad about minorities with minorities?

you do understand that simply throwing a label at someone doesn't mean that the label is validated?

or is it that you just think the black guys in the video and andy ngo are just stupid and don't understand the motives of the white men who are present?

"Why would you single out this video?"

the video is being used as evidence that a "hate" group was planning an attack

when I actually watched the video to assess the situation myself it became obvious very very fast that the initial claim of them planning to initiate the violence was a lie

I also noticed quite clearly that this "hate" group has quite a bit of minorities and women

"Talk about talking in absolutes."

it is a fact that antifa formed out of communist groups

"We don't have to talk about the bad guys because the other guys might be also bad!"

in the video who was expected to initiate the attack? would that group not be a more pressing issue?

"I don't support all of the antifa's ideologies and I definitely don't support any kind of violent protest unless it's the last option. We're not at a point yet where violence is the last option."

ok do you have any evidence that this group in particular is attacking minorities? which is supposedly what antifa is fighting against?

and i'm not talking about "the alt right" whatever that even means, I'm talking about the group i see in this video

all i've ever seen from this group is fighting against antifa

"Why are you even afraid of those "communists"? The US is so far to the right of the political spectrum that they won't even make a dent."

you just answered the question all within that same quote

"Or are you afraid they might succeed in aligning the spectrum to the center?"

which entails what?

"It means that we shouldn't equate systematic unprovoked mass murder with singular instances of provoked violence."

lol systemic? can you describe the systems you are referring to?

"Common sense. Look up "propaganda"."

I'm asking for evidence from THIS GROUP

"If the right was honest about their motives nobody would vote for them. They wouldn't have to hide themselves from the law because speaking their motives out loud would be breaking the law. Their hate against minorities and anyone who isn't white is well documented and an open book for anyone who knows how to read. "

lol did I really just read that everyone on the right is a racist in your view?

Neither of the tech companies you mention are left wing, neither was Obama. Pushing neo-liberal free market economy is not left wing. That is right-wing.

so someone can only be left wing when they push collective ownership of the means of production?

are you in favour of socialism? if so why?

They would need to support some degree of collective ownership, not necessarily complete.

You definitely cannot be left wing if you think it is fine that the working class should pay for the financial crisis and not wall street.

"They would need to support some degree of collective ownership, not necessarily complete."

why don't you want complete collective ownership and how would you decide who is allowed to own a business?

"You definitely cannot be left wing if you think it is fine that the working class should pay for the financial crisis and not wall street."

I don't think you could argue that it was right wing either since the right is about less government intervention, but I definitely agree that those businesses should have failed

Obama was a piece of shit for doing that and murdering millions of people and destroying their countries and running guns to mexico etc etc etc

I won't rule out complete collective ownership as a functional way to make a state, but it is not my prefered society.

Some collective ownership does not mean that you have to take anybody's right to own a business. And even if the state should own a full sector, anybody can make a business in another sector.

"the right is about less government intervention", not true, Libertarians (and anarcho capitalist) are against governmental intervention. Lots of right wingers are are for governmental intervention, including the guy in your profile picture. And governmental intervention is fine, it is corporate welfare I have a problem with, which democrats and republicans have been pushing the past half century.

Doing better than Obama is an easy job, somehow Trump manages to do even worse.

Threads like this make me sad,you should not wish violence on people just because they said some stupid things, this way you cantry to justify hurting almost anybody.
