I got one crash while playing this game, and it was at a time when I found a breakable wall with an Max HP Up inside, and I think I picked it up on the exact same frame as I got a shard from a demon. It was very early on that it happened, and ever since I've been very cautious while playing, but it hasn't happened again.
I've also been softlocked multiple times while swimming in the water. There is a bug where if you jump into the water (without associated power up, as I don't have it yet) while performing some combination of attacking and resurfacing (not exactly sure how to replicate yet but it's not hard), you'll get stuck on the surface of the water. At this point you can only move your character left and right. Jumping doesn't work, and neither does attacking. It happened to me once in water that I was able to just walk out of, so that fixed the problem, but it happened to me twice more in water that I couldn't escape. Of those two times, once I had to reset, while the other time I managed to lure an enemy to attack me, which got me out of the lock.
So far, I'm at just over 50% map completion with like 15 hours of playtime. I've gotten the demon shard for every mob I've encountered so far along the way, and I'd like to think I've found all the secrets up to this point, although I may very well have missed something.
I wish there was a way to raise the difficulty level for a first playthrough. I love all the customization options, but I'm finding the game to be way too easy. Perhaps it's because I am overpowered given my tendency to grind mobs to get shards, but still, that's a reason why I wanted to play on a harder difficulty. Most bosses I can beat by just spam attacking without even bothering to dodge their attacks and kill them before running out of health, and when I have back-up potions and food, it makes it trivial. I cannot stress enough how much more enjoyable this game would be for me if it was at least a little bit challenging. It's to the point where it upsets me. Curse of the Moon had a good amount of difficulty (can't complain), so I had hoped this would be the same. Especially with so many freaking awesome weapons and abilities to use...
I digress.
The weapon I'm using is a sword I found early on called the Rhava Bural, and it has a rapid attack that doesn't impact movement. I try every weapon I pick up, and I still haven't found one better than this. I have not read any information on this game yet, so I don't know of which weapons are considered the best, but I'm very curious if the one I am using is deemed by others to be as good as I think it is.
For shards, I've been using the Summon Bats since very early on. It was strong for awhile, but it's starting to feel lacking at this point. I also use True Arrow, which is also starting to feel lacking. I try every shard I get as well, but since I've invested so much in the aforementioned shards, it's hard to make the switch. There's a few in particular that I occasionally use, and one which I really like shoots a dark laser out and lets you aim at anything to destroy it. Very satisfying... in fact, the combat in general is very satisfying, as is the exploration, and pretty much everything about this game kicks ass (except the difficulty).
I can only imagine how quickly this game could be beaten if one didn't explore and go the completionist route, as it's very easy to run through the areas. After I saved last night, I decided to just quickly get a look at what was ahead, so I ran through several rooms and decided to Alt+F4 when I realized I made it to the next save point already.
Just my ramblings on Ritual of the Night. Awesome game so far, being that I'm only just over halfway through the game.
