I certainly found Doom 2016 and Hellblade to be a joy to play on Switch. I think it's quite probable I will enjoy Witcher 3 as well. Not everyone minds if a game is lower resolution or 30fps. Obviously there will be others for whom graphics are a high priority, and that's fair enough, to each their own. I'm just happy that I get to enjoy these games on my system of choice. |
I'm confused, because either your type is the behemoth of a majority, or current gen console sales, for both Pro and X1X, and the hype for next gen hw must be in an extreme minority, because why would anyone be excited for more power, more fps, better visuals, if you're fine with sub 1080p and sub 30fps?
This begs me so hard to ask "why upgrade at all, period", if you're find with sticking to much older res/performance metrics. I get it, you don't mind, except you do, because you'll want to upgrade sooner or later, or take issue when someone doesn't downgrade for what you've chosen to stick to for years on end.
Like, I can totally understand and can fully get behind people getting miffed, when the latest hw isn't being catered for or borked with, because that's it, it's new HW, it's supposed to do good, but older hw or lesser has not much rom to complain, because it was limited to begin with.
Some of you here marvel at what you can do with less, and I'm here wanting to actually see us pushing forward into he future, the far future, with what we can do more, with better hw, not less.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

The two aren't mutually exclusive; there's clearly room on the market for both powerful dedicated consoles and a much less powerful portable hybrid. The Switch doing what it does will not stop Sony, MS, and PC pushing forwards.
Graphics matter to me to an extent; I enjoy looking at pretty things as much as the next guy, and I generally don't tolerate games that don't live up to the graphical standards of the hardware its running on, though that's more a matter of wanting the products I buy to be competently made.
Maybe I am a small minority. I regularly play games on older systems; just last year I replayed Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii in 480p and it still looks good to me. I grew up with the basic flat-shaded polygons of Starfox on the SNES, then the crude 3D advances of the PS1 and N64. I guess I just never lost that perspective, to see games in the context of the hardware they're running on and how far they've come just in my lifetime.
I'm fine with the level of graphics the Switch offers. It may not be enough for some, and that's fine, but it's enough for me.
Or play on another platform. Sorry, but it looks so bad, textures are horrible especially the foliage etc.
A Nintendo system finally landing some meaty third party support and people still nitpick. We get it, Switch is less powerful than the other systems and current gen games need a downgrade. Let's enjoy the fact Nintendo fans get to enjoy a top notch current gen game.

For me the only reason to move to new gens is so we can improve graphics and try games that weren't possible before. Whenever that stops happening I won't upgrade, also when games released stop interesting me or we move to full digital or streaming I'll probably leave gaming (unless of course we achieve a impossible future of 10 bucks a month with thousand of new AAA games available to play).

Looks like Geralt's voice actor was telling the truth. Very happy to see this come over, and give other devs less of an excuse to ignore the Switch...as long as performance holds up that it.
I will be following DF closely on this, but this looks like a day 1 purchase for me.
Unless something goes terrible wrong, I'll be there day one.
