This appears to be a new series on VG Chartz. Such and such company gaming wing = such and such companies mobile arm.

You are absolutely right about my thoughts on Sony Mobile = Sony Playstation. I'll leave it at that.

Replying from mobile, so not sure if this is going to format correctly. You've all been forewarned if this looks wonky.

Apple just announced it was splitting iOS into two different operating systems - iOS and iPadOS. Turns out that having a universal operating system on two device types was actually holding both devices back, and now developers will have to develop two separate apps for two different device types that are being used in more and more divergent ways as time goes on.

But really, Playstation game consoles and mobile phones and TVs should be running the exact same operating system. Game consoles should have code in them for handing sending and receiving cell phone calls on antennas they do not have.  Televisions should have code in them to handle the output of VR headsets they can't run. Mobile phones should have code in them to handle internet signals for Ethernet ports they do not have. It's the only way for Sony to succeed long-term. It's just so obvious.

They are still the same OS, Apple is just rebranding the iPad OS as they have been adding exclusive features to iPad for years. Now they can communicate updates for each device more easily. It is just a bit of house cleaning. It will will make things simpler for consumers, developers, and Apple.

This is in no way an indication that Sony's business model is good, and that working towards a company wide goal is a bad idea. Apple did not come out and say moving forward Macs will be running on Windows, and push the use of Windows Store over their own Music, TV, and Podcast services. That is exactly what Sony has been doing, while loosing massive amounts of market share, and Billions of dollars.

Sony is wasting man power building things mutliple times, competing with themselves. 4K Ultra Streaming is competing with PlayStation Video. Crackle is competing with PlayStation Vue. PlayStation Store is competing with Google Play on Xperia and Bravia. The PlayStation Team is building an OS for Sony, while the Xperia and Bravia Teams are busy helping build Googles OS.

Sony needs to do house cleaning just like Apple did. Zen 2 and Navi are perfectly suitable for Mobile as seen by Samsungs move to RDNA based graphics for their Mobile devices moving forward. If Sony moves their Mobile and TV products over to Ryzen and RDNA, they can move off Android, and share a common unified OS between PS5, Phone, and TV. Then all of Sony's OS teams can work together to create apps that work across all Sony products (of course with specific features suited to each device). All of their devices can be powered by the PlayStation Store allowing Sony to my consistant revenue off of all products beyond the point of sale. Additionally, they can open up access to PlayStation titles across all devices, allowing them to tap into their most valuable assets. All while pushing PlayStation Vue, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Now, and other Sony service, instead of pushing competitive services ahead of their own.

Then, maybe, instead of selling 6.5 Million Google Phone's a year, and loosing $1 Billion, maybe they can sell 10 Million Sony Phone's and break even. Worse case scenario, they sell 6.5M Sony Phone's, and loose $1 Billion, but at least that billion is going to building up their own OS, Software, Networking, and Services.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Lol. "rebranding". Over the years iPadOS and iOS are going to diverge further and further and iPadOS and MacOS are going to converge more and more. You couldn't be more wrong about what apple is doing. They're going further and further away from universal operating systems and forcing developers to develop more versions of apps for apple devices, not less. This directly contradicts your claims.

No, see if Sony were to make their own phone OS, that would cost hundreds of millions, per year to build and maintain to compete against apple and google. Their OS would have to work just as good as chrome or iOS and have every single major app a user would expect to have from day one in order to have a prayer at even maintaining their market share.

It's far more likely that if Sony were to do what you suggest, instead of selling 6.5 million phones, they'll sell 1 million, and instead of losing $1 billion a year, they'd lose $2 billion-$3 billion. But hey, what's a little bit of decreased marketshare when you can pour millions into getting facebook to develop their own app for your device, and getting them to maintain it the same way they do for Google and Apple?

You further you go down this road, the more and more ridiculous this becomes.
